Alright, polished alumide set of scales ordered.

If anything these will make a nice set of scales in combined with the skeleton frame in addition to being a fitting test for the stainless ones.

Now we´re talking. and if you are at it, maybe you could offer them in a kit with precision fabricated shims to reduce the clatter of the Surge and a nice milled down Bluntnose head...  8)

I´m waiting what´s there to come for my surge...

That's a whole other project. I need to see how the stainless steel scales for the juice scales up.

I purposely started with the Squirt to see if such things could be done. The Surge scales redo will be a huge challenge, since there is no precedent or anything to work off of.

Since the Charge TTi is what I am emulating, there is no reason to design scales for it :)

For the record, the Surge chatter is due to the frame of springing back, if you squish the gap for the plier head if you disassemble, it will GREATLY reduce the chatter.

I wonder if Leatherman is watching....are you?

I did not want to nag or be impatient. Just looking forward to it, and the "Kit" idea just crossed my mind as i am spoilt by teh swiss finish and have seen that you put very much thought and effort in your products - I was thinking about dismantling, maybe polishing parts and careful reassembly of my Surge anyways when i read your next idea.

And teh Bluntnose head would be very welcome. Maybe i can just send you mine ;-)

Just normal Surge heads? I have a couple of new spare ones. Just looking for a bunt nose? Pm me and we can set up the p4 et al.

Now back on target. Shapeways sent me am emailing saying the plastic scales are off to the robots to print. Fingers crossed on no problems.

I haven't done this level of 3d print work since design school. Lots of fun!

Looking good Eric.  Printing scales, really does drive home how far I need to go as I sit here with a bit of brass and sandpaper.  Keep up the good work.

It's in part a laziness, but it's also in part a performance thing. By designing and printing digitally, I can repeat my failures/successes with relative ease. I am actually not one to sit down with a stock of brass hack away at it, I spend days, sometimes weeks figuring out how to do things.

If I discover a good way, picture, then post to capture the idea, however stupid or good it maybe :)

Did a little fiddling today. Took an old user S2 I had and decided to even out the handles and remove the offending can/bottle opener.

In the process, I wanted to take a photo of another way to install the back springs.

As mentioned before, the way I installed the knife and tool backsprings is sliding it into as far as it can go, closing the blade/tool to hold the spring in place, holding it in place with a clamp or vice and then taping it into place.

The plier/inside tool springs are quite a bit stronger because of the short throw they have. The process is similar except I found that putting the end of the spring and the entire tool into the vice and slowly closing the vice would seat the springs nicely.

The end result is something like this.

I had made the middle flat driver into an awl.

Compared to another s2.

Even Steven.

Used the skele-smoothie today to do most of the wiring, plastic shard cleaning, installation and clean up work on my new DIY millennium falcon lamp made from a flea market find.

The flat bit was perfect for taking off the plate, the wire cutters made short work of the lamp cord and the pliers worked very well to adjust the depth of nipple (teehee)

Nice lamp! I like how you were able to also give the base the look. Just don't put a lightbulb that will get too hot in!

The base plate is the underside of the falcon. I trimmed it with some styrene.

Smoothie - Squirt parts in a Juice?
Reply #49 on: April 13, 2013, 11:46:16 PM
This looks promising. Squirt tools in a Juice? All that needs done is a small notch needing to be milled into the backspring cam area.

The Smoothie - Juice Cap Crimper!
Reply #50 on: April 13, 2013, 11:47:13 PM
Also, playing around today and made a cap crimper on a juice head. Not for cap crimping but for holding on to wire handles, rods, ummmm other stuff. It's 1/8 in diameter and a 3/16" counter sunk on one side.

Don't mind the purple, I am using the scales as place holders till I get those darn steel ones in.

Somehow I managed to save a set of KF4 scales (with some minor damage)

But i must confess I especially do like not battered, but worn down from use BO where you can see that a tool has been used many times.

I think BO on LM tools is a real asset.  Ive had my juices rust on the inside.  Especially the springs where they contact the frame.  So BO'ing would have prevented that, even if the tools wear the inside will be protected, prolonging the life.
