Amazon or ebay is where I buy 2.5mm and 3.0mm.  K&S engineering makes it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/290841792610

http://www.ebay.com/itm/390524273848

Finding smaller 2.2 pin stock is tougher, I haven't found a source in north america, but you can put some 2.5mm in a drill and spin it on sandpaper to reduce it down.

Just for reference.

84mm SAKs - 2.2
91mm SAKs - 2.5 and 2.2
93mm SAKs - 2.5 and 3.0

I have found a source (just waiting for them to confirm a delivery date) and hope to be able to provide sets of pin stock for 84 and 91mm SAKs in the next week or so via EDCSource. I'll be happy to ship them wherever they're needed  :tu:

Let us know about any updates. I'll need some.

I placed a large order last week (to make sure shipping costs to me didn't put the end price up too much) and they phoned me earlier today to say they hope to be receiving the 2.2mm (they have other sizes already put aside for me) by the end of this week. I'd expect to receive it by Wednesday next week hopefully. I do have a small amount already, but I'm going to wait until I get the larger shipment in before listing

I've bought LOADS of stuff from EDCSource before, but never sold anything on it. Looking forward to trying it out  :D

Hey great you are stepping up to provide the service.  I used to buy some from neil way back when, and we really need another nice chap to provide the service!  :salute:

Selling it in packs and also separate would be a great idea, since then the user might not know what sizes they need for a 91mm and could just buy a 91mm mod pack.. etc.

Thanks Wootz  :salute:

I'll also be putting together a couple of bulk packs for those who want the pin stock in higher quantities, and possibly a special assorted pack or two with additional sizes (1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm & 4mm as well as the 2.2mm and 2.5mm) for the more adventurous types  :D

It's all been cut into 3" lengths, which are long enough to make even the widest mod anyone is liable to attempt, and long enough for a few slimmer builds ... but the main reasons for this are ease of shipping for me (and keep the associated costs down), and more importantly - less chance of them getting bent in transit  ;)

I could get some more in and do them in 12" lengths, but I'd have to strap them to some timber or something to make sure they reached their destination in good order

Well that little lot didn't last long  :o Don't worry though, there's plenty more ;) As soon as I get this batch despatched and see what the actual postage costs are, I'll get some more relisted  :salute:

Thanks to everyone who's bought some this time round  :salute: I had a bit of a twitchy bum about buying a bucket load of pin stock and it sitting there for ages. I may need to tweak costs slightly on the next batch once I'm clearer on actual postage costs. I will of course be trying to keep it as lean as possible for all the budding SAK butchers out there  :P

Thanks again guys, your pin stock is packed up ready to go and will be underway in the next couple of days. If you could drop me a line to confirm receipt and package intact, I'd appreciate it  :tu:

Happy modding

What is the best type of brass to use for pins then?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brass

Seems most model shops have 2.5mm and 3mm.
Like this one http://www.modelshop.co.uk/brass-rod-30mm-304mm-long-pk2-335-p.asp
But from experience I can say that the brass is always really, really soft and I would expect it not to hold up.

Brass has been used as knife pivot pins for centuries, and it does also work harden. Making a fixed knife years ago, I cut the pins a little longer than normal (for safety) but ended up having the pins fracture and chip out before fully peened as the brass had hardened before being fully peened. Lesson learned on my part  :-[

Yep you can beat brass full hard and it does compress.  Most of the sheet brass I buy half hard rolled for that reason.  I also found out about leaving too much brass rod to peen down and it'll crack on ya.

Guys,

All pin stock from recent sales was despatched today  :tu: I do have more to list, but I need to iron out a couple of wrinkles with the listings on EDCSource before putting more up. In the meantime, if anyone needs any 91mm or 84mm pin sets please contact me via PM  :salute:

Cheers

Quick update:

I've relisted some 91mm SAK pin stock HERE and have had to tweak the shipping charges to make it fairer for you and me

These shipping charges should be calculated and added to the invoice automatically, but are in the experimental stage so may need a little refining on future listings. Please ensure I get your forum username or email so that I can contact you to adjust these charges with you if necessary  :tu:

Many thanks
