Another Funky Juice Lookalike
on: February 07, 2013, 03:24:48 PM
Hello,

Here's another Juice lookalike by Ruiss, this one cost the princely sum of $12 including postage.

Reminiscent of the KF4, this one isn't an exact copy due to the can opener & bottle opener/driver tools in place of the saw and LM can/bottle opener.

Quality is about the same as the Ruiss XE6 clone - pretty good but in no way of Leatherman quality: there's that bit of wobble when the tool's closed and some of the tools don't "snap" open very convincingly.

Anyhoo, here is is:

Open, showing the plier head and drivers (same as the LM - straight drivers are even more deadly on this though!)

And the external tools - Plain blade, serrated blade, file (poor) and the can opener & bottle opener.

BUT here's the twist: Here it is alongside a Juice S2:

It's a Mini-Juice!

Bigger than a P4 smaller than a Juice. It's a really nice little pocket tool. Shame it has no scissors but I'll give this a good old kicking for a month or so to see how it holds out to a bit of use.

Very dinky. :D  The drivers are even sharper than on a real Juice though? :o  That's a scary thought.

Now that's cool. :2tu: Do you have a link to that one? I'd like to try one, maybe find a suitable pair of scissors to add to it. >:D

I'll wait for the New years rush to pass though. I hate ordering stuff from China in February. ;)

Well, day one and I've discovered 3 things:

1) The bottle opener works!

2) The can opener works IF you're left handed - the body of the tool prevents you from using it right handed! It does work though and is neither bent or broken by the task. It's slow going and certainly wouldn't be my first choice!

3) It's a pincher! Ow!

So what's the verdict after a month?  :pok: :D :D

Aha, here you go then -

Here's the positives;

The pliers are really good. Larger than a P4 and very capable. They've loosened up nicely but have no sideward movement. Very nice indeed. I've used the wire cutters but for nothing heavier than electrical wire which they coped with well enough, I think my coat hangers are safe though.

The plain knife blade is a good 'un too. Not breathtakingly good quality steel but It kept its edge fairly well and I've just resharpened it to not-quite-shaving-sharp-but-pretty-darn-sharp sharpness.

The bottle opener/flat blade driver is as good as it can be - driver has square corners and locks well enough, bottle opener works.

The can opener is pretty awful at opening cans but it's shape makes for a really handy pokey/scrapey thing, and you can't have too many of them.

The internal flat blade drivers are well shaped if impossible to deploy without loss of skin and many swear words.

Some negatives;

The file isn't much use. I used it to reshape a couple of ptfe washers and it worked well enough, but it'd struggle with anything really hard.

The serrated blade is a bit TOO serrated if you follow my meaning. It sticks and slashes. Might be better if I sharpen it a few times to round off the edges?

The Phillips head is, well, crap.

The anodising is pretty thin and wears easily - not really an issue but there it is.

All in all for the price,  It's a GOOD tool not a GREAT tool. 6.5 out of 10  :D

It looks like the exact same can opener I have on my fake Wave, I can confirm this thing is terrible- if you have any idea on how to improve it I'm interested.
