(Solved) Inserting a pen into a Plus scale
on: February 09, 2013, 12:52:59 AM
Am in the process of shaping, followed by channeling the scale tools for the 91mm Plus scale. Have a spare pair of standard cellidor scales am using for a template, then noticed something odd on the pen.

The pen is shaped for the tweezers scale, not the toothpick scale. Am looking for opinions as how to proceed.

Move the channel for the tweezers to the toothpick & pen to the toothpick scale, put two pen channels in both scales. File down the plastic pen head and stick with the 91mm Plus scale profile. Or... ?

Doh! I see now. It was supposed to be rotated over and slide into the scale - sideways:facepalm:

Here was trying to slide it in with the flat-most surface towards the back of the scale.  :ahhh  YOUR photo gave the perspective needed.

THANK YOU!  :D  :2tu:

Will be archiving your photo for future reference.

Note: Have never seen a SAK Plus in person before. Most photos online only showed the pen all the way in, or laying on the outside. His photo showed me to the light! Now I feel like smurf.

"Modification 24. The Officer can write

Any of the Officer models that has a toothpick or tweezer can have an SAK pen instead of the T or T: Remove the T (or T). Hold the knife between the jaws of a vise, padded with cardboard, so the plastic scale will not bulge away from the liner when the bit goes in. Send a twirling drill bit down the T or T hole, keeping the bit against the liner. The Vic pen is .09” or 2.2mm wide; a 3/32 (or a #41 = .096”) bit works. The bit will likely be too short and you will have to remove the scale and finish the groove with a knife or other tool; snap or glue the scale back on (see Repair 11).
from The SAK Owner's Manual
But then you will have no toothpick (or tweezer).
