Phone and complain - they gave everyone who bought a Nexus 7 the month before they dropped the price a rebate. Might come to nothing but worth a try!

I just found this while doing some research on my new phone.

16 Android actions to make Android your own personal assistant

I have Google Now on my Nexus 7 but I never really used it because I didn't really know what it was supposed to do.  Finally someone has taken the time to explain it in plain English!  :D

The new Nexus is scheduled to drop in two months, so not really surprising.

And I'm gonna be smartphoneless for a while. :ahhh Both speakers on my Prestigio 4040 died on me on friday evening. They'd work if I applied pressure at just the right spot of the back panel though. The guy at the at the shop/repair center said it was probably some contact on the motherboard. But as it's still under the two year warranty they have to send it in to headquarters. He said though I'll probably get a new one back. The processing time is 10-15 working days though. ::) I've been using the old Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro since friday but quickly remembered why I replaced it. It kept restarting on me 5, 6 times a day without no apparent reason. :shrug: I'm back to using a Nokia 5310 and a Samsung C170. (I have two numbers and the Prestigio is a dual sim phone) Feels like going back in time. :ahhh

I got the replacement on wednesday. They didn't have the old one in stock anymore so I got a newer model free of charge.

I got a PAP4055:

Dual core 1,2Ghz processor instead of a single core 1Ghz
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean instead of 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (How do they come up with those names? :ahhh )
8.0MP camera instead of a 5.0MP one
a good set of earbuds and a leather case

and most importantly ... a 2500mAh battery instead of the 1500mAh in the old one. :2tu:

It is a bit heavier due to the larger battery but I'm OK with that considering I now get almost two days without the charger. :D Depending how much I play with it of course. :P

I unplugged my CAT B15 at lunchtime on Friday, used it reasonably on Friday afternoon and lightly all weekend until I got back home when it's had heavier use and been connected to WiFi. It's just dropped below 60%. I'm quite pleased with that!

Parcels - parcel tracking on huge number of carrier services

I can't even say how awesome this app is, you can get notified about every move of the parcel you're waiting for...

I have set it to update every 4 hours, so I can keep track of every MT or other stuff I have ordered :D

I heard about this a while back and applied for a beta key, which has just come through today... it seems very promising for the future of android theming:

I have been playing/using some apps (various) :

Lightmeter (usefull for measuring the output of LED torches)
Sound meter (in most phones they are limited to 90dB, because of the limitations of the microphone)
sirens (really fun to make people jump around)

There are several decent ones, for free so I will not mention any names.

Today the wife and I took a trip out to the local electronics superstore and she played around with a few of the midrange android smartphones... and ended up with a Samsung Galaxy Core. It's a pretty decent phone even though it was nearly the marked down price of my Nexus... anyways it was the one she felt most comfortable with and it's fairly modern on most features and will probably last her several years.

Happy wife happy life.  Assuming she's not happy because it's the day the pool boy stops in.

So after quite a long time using Clean Master on my 'droids I've finally purged it.

It has become too bloated and seems to be more about advertising other apps and features that I don't want or didn't install it for in the first place.

I haven't used Clean Master since my S3.  I haven't needed it on my S5 or on the Tab S.

After 7 pages shifting from apps into a tech spec conversation I think I will giv my app list.
I am a little surprised no one has meantioned any construction/handyman apps that turn your phone into a multi tool. All of these are free with adds unless noted.

Smart tools;
gives unit converter, sound/vibration meter, compass/magnetic field meter, level surface/plain/optical, and an optical rangefinder, plus a few usless things like flashlight mode for your flash, etc. Use this a lot, free with adds or 4usd for key is worth it. :tu: :tu:

Handyman Calculator;
Job specific estimating calc with specialty catigories for everything from lumber, tile and masonry to oil drilling. If you need it there's probably a calc for it.

Dioptra;
Surveyors theodotle over lay for camera display, shows compass heading, azimuth and bearing, yaw and pitch angles Free no adds

PowerCalc;
Basic scientific calc like the TI35

Mathematics;
Graphic calc with a few extras, now if only I could figure out how to use it :bnghd:

Watch Over Me;
A personal alarm system that when set will notify emergency contact if you fail to check in with app when the timer is up or if you shake your phone. Sends emergency message and Gps location also turns on the video recorder/mic. The paid version also uploads any recorded video to their servers if I remember correctly so you don't loose it if your phone is destroyed during your emergency, or is that another security app I'm thinking of..

Personal eye system;
free but most of the cool features require paid key :(, Enhances the basic Maps gps display to show numeric and heading data, path tracking,  does coordinate system conversion such as the army's 10digit system, has a share function so you can upload your navigation to a friend with the paid version played with it some but haven't really used it much looks cool though. Expensive for an app key mabeyI'll cough up the money someday, but not right now.

Strelok and Sniper Calc;
two ballistics calculators with simulated reticule as well as numeric units.

Wifi Analyzer;
display all wifi signals around as well as other phones, shows a lot more than just what networks are near by in that it shows users and devices too. Can be used for wifi tracking.

IPSC Shot Timer;
Shooting timer software for shooting competition. Functions well as an audio based event timer as well.

Talking translator and Google's Translate;
A must for work some times.

I saw the app but I don't think it was touched on.

"Torque" or "Torque Pro"

Allows users to link view Bluetooth to their vehicles ECM. (Computer)

Basically, you purchase a Bluetooth adapter for your vehicle, it should plug into an OBD2 port. (Same one the dealerships use, usually somewhere around your pedals) usually around 20USD.

It allows you to look at everything, every sensor, trouble codes, reset codes, rpms, automatically records 1/4 and 1/8 mile times.

Driving an older generation diesel myself, I can read my injector balance rates and compare my transmission temp, engine temp (factory) and actual downpipe (off the turbo) temperatures.

I'm sure we had a whole thread about that, I've even got it installed, and the sensor for my car but never got around to actually doing anything with it... As usual...
