Question about handles
on: February 12, 2013, 04:31:34 AM
So I'm trying to learn more about hatchets, axes and 'hawks.  I've even bought a couple of inexpensive ones.
My question is this:
Is there an actual advantage to having a one piece tomahawk?  Ive seen  few of them forged (or stamped) out of a single piece of steel.  Wouldn't this transfer more of the vibration and impact to your arm?  Wouldn't a wooden handle be more forgiving?
Yes I realize that most of the solid ones are "tactical" and mostly for zombies and such.

I think you've pretty much got it already.  Yes, the one piece construction will be more likely to transfer vibrations up your arm, but on the plus side you will never have to replace the handle.  Wooden handles will eventually give up the ghost and break/crack/loosen on the head and so need changed.

However I cannot think of a one piece 'hawk that I would take into the woods with me as a useful camping aid.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.
