You'll find a pile of 'em here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,35270.0.html

Pretty hefty price tag for a knife, even a Damascus one.

Thanks!

Makes me wonder what the 2012 Damascus will fetch in 2015?

Pretty much anything of real Damascus will fetch beaucoup bucks; those Pioneers are fairly rare birds, so even more so for them. Besides SAKs, I'm also into straight razors. Damascus razors fetch a pretty penny as well. I looked at one at an antiques shop once and nearly lost my jaw to the floor when I heard the price. Let's just say I could've bought a good used car for the price of that razor.

!WOW! Thank god we have our limits.... ;)

I hope it goes even higher for Reinier. At this rate it might reach the 1000$. In my opinion far to much, but it gives hope for the damascus-sellers out there.

I am happy for Reinier but it never ceases to amaze me at what possesses some people to pay this much. These have often come up in the $400. range but I guess if you want something desperately enough you will buy it instead of making a house payment or buying a new car.

I'm glad I'm not trying to buy one of these. Congrats to Reinier - AFAIK this is now the new record for most paid for a single SAK on eBay (except of course for a Wenger Giant). The old record holder was a 1973 Soldier at $690.

Still cannot believe how much they actually sold for.  :o
I'm so glad I picked them up a long time ago and paid nowhere near that much.
I guess if someone really wants it that bad they will pay over the odds to get it.

Do you think my landlord would accept one of these in lieu of rent this month?  >:D

Whats the story with SwissTool.co.uk, are they still in business? They never reply to my emails.

I'd stay as far away from them as possible if I were you.. They happily took my money about a year ago and never sent me my knives nor answered to any emails, phone calls or letters or refunded my money..

Wow Reinier, congratulations!
Looking at these prices I'm extremely happy to be a "Wenger only" collector.

 ::) :think:

So, you're happy...you had not invest on Victorinox SAKs? The Pioneer Damascus 2010 new retails for around $225 as limited edition, that's over $500 of profit! Has Wenger SAKs increased or kept their value over the past fews years? I'd be extremely happy if my collection were to increase in value, that makes as a smart investment!

I understand your points.
However, I never considered collecting SAK's an "investment" at all ..... the lower is the price the better for me, as I don't have plans to resell them.
Given also the fact that Wenger is way less popular and that there is much less interest by collectors comparing to Victorinox, I would not consider it a smart investment at all!  ;)
My biggest purchase was for the Victorinox Battle Series Set, when I started collecting and before my "Wenger only" addiction.
Should I really need money... I will ask Reinier to sell my set!  :D

I'd not thought of resell or as an investment, but if a SAK increase his value over time by collecting, that's good thing too. Maybe that Pioneer Damascus could have got you couples of Wengers of your wanted list in some trades. Sometimes even if you're rich, you have the money for the stuffs you really want but I guess you can't have everything you want...
