Not really my favorite - no pliers, no metal file/saw ... >:D but it is a great working tool and scales are great indeed :tu:

I've always thought I needed sak pliers so carried a sak with them but over the last month or so I've managed fine without.
What I like about 108s is the blade size and the scales offer loads of grip plus they do look cool

I'd like it very much if Victorinox ever made a 108mm SAK with spear point blade, clip point blade and that lovely serrated razor that is the rescue/gutting blade. Essentially, a Mauser with rescue blade instead of saw/combo tool.  :gimme:

Still have my Trooper which was my EDC for a long time. Replaced it with an Adventurer after the blade closed on my fingers  :( But still a beautiful knife.

I normally make my lanyards with an Acme Slimline Tornado as a fob...tried out the compass as an alternative.

.

Some different 108s.   These were made by Aitor, the Spanish knifemaker.
Whatever happened to them?

I almost bought a GAK at a local flea market but like many in this thread, it was butchered in the army. They also had a new Mil-Tec one but like some in this thread it seemed to be butchered at the factory, I think such tools just aren't a thing to cheap out on.

They're still kicking around. Making knives.

Since 2006 they were taken over by the Pielcu Group and since then their quality has severly dropped.

Yes you are right.

When I was in the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), we got the GAK. So far so good. I got a slightly used one. Some of us got knives that were almost used. When the time there was over, we had to give them back to the Bundeswehr. They gave it to other young men that started their duty. We were no volunteer army per se at that time. Every young man had to join, except from health issues or reservations against weapons.

Just a few years ago - our armed forces became a professional army.

I got my GAK (showed above) a some times after I left the army at a surplus store. They were available new on the regular market at that time. The GAK that is used today (Vic Trailmaster OHO) ist not available new on the market. They also can be bought used.

Just a little insight.  :salute: :salute:

I do know your system, and As a Finn actually was conscripted myself and while we had no issue knives many did indeed treat their equipment poorly, most probably out of frustration and lack of respect for common property, but as most males go there incompetence came to play as well. A shame because like most armies the equipment was actually really good, for example an inordinate amount of the army belts at a  9,50€ and leather gloves at 5€ fee become "lost" during service.

Great! I really love the 108 series. From a collectors perspective they're also very interesting because it is really the only collection that you can complete. All the other series have way to many models and variations to get a complete collection.
