Wenger knife with integrated flashlight?
on:
February 27, 2013, 06:09:40 AM
Does anyone know where I can get one of these? See link below.
http://www.sierratradingpost.com/adventure-flashlight-and-knife-by-wenger~p~73112/
The site has none in stock, no specifications and I can't find any info on this model. Is/was this a knockoff or does such a knife exist? From the pictures it looks like an 85mm knife but I'm not sure.
EDIT: After further research I found it here
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Wenger+Spot+Light+with+Scissors
it's a Wenger Spot Light with scissors.
I still can't find one for sale yet. Any suggestions?

There's also a plain Spot Light without scissors. Both, along with the contemporary Laser, take an odd AAAA battery. All have been out of production for years. Good luck in finding one.

I second ColoSwiss about the odd AAAA.
The knife, like the laser pointer, requires actually two of them, and they are quite difficult to find, and not as common as the AAA.
Also consider that the light is VERY weak.
I was lucky and found both versions new from a local shop.
They do, however, show up on ebay (used) from time to time.
I saw one not long ago, but can't find it now.
Just be sure to ask the seller to test the light, as I have seen many models with the led/laser not working because of the acid from the batteries.
This was from mint examples, stored away for years without removing the batteries.

Thanks guys. I'm not a huge collector but I have decided to try to collect knives with integrated flashlights. I want quality knives and not the cheaply made ones. I'm not a serious collector either so this one is likely out of my reach.
I will be keeping an eye out for one though.
I love the Victorinox Lite models, and I have a Gerber with a decent Light on it. Other than that I'm not finding many quality light implementations.
Thanks again for the info guys. I started out mostly a Leatherman guy but I'm enjoying Victorinox and Wenger much more these days. Not only is there more history and variety with Swiss knives but they are generally cheaper and a better value than other knives or multis.

The Wenger 65mm Pocket Tool Chest comes in a version that has a small flashlight built in to one scale, similar to the "Lite" models from Victorinox. There were at least 4 colors to the scales: Red, Blue, Smoke, and a Burgundy.

One potential source of AAAA batteries is 9V PP3 cells. Most of them have six AAAAs inside.
Obviously don't hold me responsible if you take one apart and it leaks everywhere and kills you
