Classic question
on: February 27, 2013, 11:33:12 PM
Just wondering how many if any of you carry a Vic classic as your only sak along with a non sak folding knife. If so what do you carry with the classic?

I carry a 91mm Sak a multi tool for the pliers and a leatherman c33. The classic is to small for my edc.

Because of work requirements, I carry either a Classic, Alox Classic, or StayGlo Rambler on my keys.  Granted, I also have a Gerber EAB on me, but beyond that, I'm otherwise set.  If I need more, I'll use my Urban Wallet for a light and proper SAK.

I used to carry a Classic but I replaced that with a Rambler which is basically the same thing but with added Phillips driver.  That Phillips has come in very handy over the years.

No matter what else I am caring, a classic is always on my keyring in the black keychain pouch that Victorinox makes. That way, I can't lave the house without it. Living in greater suburbia, a classic is all I need 98% of the time.

Usually I will have a larger knife, like a Vic bantam, or an Opinel. I just love Opinels, and carry a number 8 a heck of a lot. So most of the time I have either a combination of a classic and a bantam, or a classic and a number 8 Opinel.

I love the little classic! I guess you could say it's my favorite knife.

A sapphire Classic has been on my keychain or floating free in my pocket for close to 7 years now. It's beat up and banged to heck, and just replaced the scissor spring, and it still works like the day I got it. I'm on the fence about whether I like it on my keyring, or in the pleather pouch Vic sells. It's currently in the pouch because I don't want to lose the tweezers while it hangs from a carabiner.

Being a desk jockey, I could easily get by with only my Classic, but that would be any fun. I normally EDC a slipjoint, with a preference toward Buck, Case, and GEC, in that order. I love my 301 in black delrin, and I recently picked up a Northfield Pemberton with 1095 blades and stag scales. Next week, I may be back to my Opinel No. 8, yellow Case Trapper, chestnut bone Case Peanut, stainless Spyderco Dragonfly (how did that sneak in?!?), red bone Henckel's pen knife, buffalo horn Tidioute Barlow, Vic Spartan....you get the picture. Whatever ends up in the pocket will just have to share time with my Classic.

I have done in the past, but switched too a Rambler too!

It's always on me, or something similar even when I have other blades or tools.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My edc choices have been all over the place lately. Some-days I carry my swisschamp and delica, some-days my classic and Opinel #7. Some-days, something in between.
While I can't say the little classic can handle all my edc needs everyday I have been really impressed with all it can do and how well it holds up. I guess I have become another big fan of the little classic.

Truth be told, if I didn't need pliers so often, I could get away with carrying a Classic/Rambler myself. I currently carry a Mechanic with a 58mm mod I made a while back. The mod is based on a Rambler, but has a flat head screwdriver/ruler in place of the blade and also has a USB drive.

That sounds like my operation a lot. My edc will vary a lor from a Vic bantam to a pinel number 8, to a Buck stockman. But the one thing that remains a constant, is the little clasic in the leyring sheath. Whatever else I may be carrying that day, I always have the classic, and it really does most of what I need to do.

There is some kind of strange, twisted pleasure that one can get from carrying only a Classic.  I carried one for a good while, and like others moved "up" to a Rambler, and then the Manager.  I often carry only a Classic or Manager, but other times employ a Big Boy like the Explorer Plus.  But I could get through the day just fine with a Classic.
