Greetings from Athens, Greece. I am really glad I finally join MTO. For those wondering my username is supposed to read something like fee-rEE-khee, which is a variety of small, really sweet apples. I picked it 'cause I like both the fruit as well as the sound.
I have been lurking for some time now mainly in the Swiss Forum's pages so it only felt right to drop in and say hi. It all started about a year ago when I was trying to make up my mind on which SAK would be a good gift for a great friend of mine that most probably would never bother to get one himself. 30yoa is a good time for one's first Victorinox though. For the record I got him a Handyman. I believe he liked it.
I've always liked pocket knives -call me Victorinox- and as a kid I had a combo made up of an Excelsior and a Classic. I also had a chinese knock off Champion. The knock off took quite a beating to get things done, odd/dirty jobs I wouldn't use the Vics on. Finally I lost the Vics and got rid of the knock off and just had two Opinel No8 for camping or cutting chores around the house as well as a small cretan fixed blade knife that I really like. Perhaps you people should look it up. These I've kept for many years and still use them.
5-6 years ago I got another Classic and
an Alox Harvester. I had seen the light and was pefectly content. That was long before MTO though.
Since I started hovering over MTO's pages I failed several times resisting the irrepressible urge to invest in some more Alox
, my first plier-based multis, a PE/SE Swiss Tool that is my much revered shelf queen for emergencies only, a Spirit PE/SE again that I find really well made and some scissors to go with in their lovely nylon scales, among some other goodies I'll probably tell you about some other time. I am convinced many of you know this feeling.
I hope my first post here wasn't just a boring pile of rambling.
Cheers
