I believe the Evowood is walnut, and the Wood 03 is bubinga .... but not 100% certain

NO NO NO ... the Wood 03 are the same size !!!

I did finally manage to track one down, and they ARE 85mm as per standard (I need to get a pic of my Traveller line up taken to show it alongside the Evowood  :D )

The knife that lowtech showed there appears to be an EKA Swede 90  ;)

I have a reference in my notes to a Wenger/EKA 3-blade (# 6.57.00) that is 10 cm (4") long. It looks similar to the EKA Swede 90, except it has the curved indent in the handle (as above) and the Swede 90 has a flat handle. The bottle opener/screwdriver on both look the same, and different from the normal Wenger bo/sd. Don't know if Wenger furnished the blades; or if EKA did and then Wenger sold it under their name.

Found the catalog reference. SAKwiki, French 1992, page 59.

That's starting to make a bit more sense. All the info I've seen on the Wood Collection is the 01, 02 and 03 which are (I think) the Esquire, Commander and Traveller but rescaled. Has this been tagged the Wood 04 or given any other designation other than 6.57.00 (which just doesn't seem very catchy to me  :P)

See the addition to my earlier post.

More info. Looking closer at that catalog page and the knives are listed as Modeles EKA, while the three on the previous page are Modeles Wenger.

Cheers mate. They look identical to the EKA Swede models but with scalloped handles. I would be very surprised if they were put together by Wenger

Would be interesting to see how they're marked, EKA or Wenger or both.

Thomas should be able to help on that   :D The box for the wood 03 on one side states "The Wood Collection. The Best from Wenger of Switzerland and EKA of Sweden" and has the Wenger logo to the left and EKA to the right. Flip the box over and it says "Made by Wenger S.A. of Switzerland" with the Wenger logo both sides.

I suspect Wenger made three, and EKA made the other three.

I have all three of the Wenger Wood Collection (two shown) and another Wenger that was sold by EKA as the 'Executive Major'. All are marked 'Wenger'. I don't have any of the EKA made knives, and don't know how they're marked.

Very interesting.

Was a Evowood Ranger 78 ever produced?  I have been jonesing for a 78, but if there were a wood version, I would get want that even more.

Cheers

ASAIK, least in the USA, Ranger 55 is the only available wood handled version. Sometimes the Swiss have another option available to the UK folks and is not listed as being available over here.

Picked up this beauty custom job.  The knife is not great, but he said he put a razor sharp convex edge on it, so it should be keen!

(Image removed from quote.)
Watching with interest.  I have just taken delivery of 16 12 inch long slats of cocobolo. Even better I have the house all to myself today.  I feel a shopping trip for classics coming on.

This one is a Special made for a friend. Was an Ambassador but now has a main blade profiled like a giant 58mm "emergency blade" and a 58 main blade replacing the nail file.
Scales are Black Wattle with heartwood and sapwood.

Some real lookers there mate  8) 8) 8).

Peter silly question time mate , the pins on your woodies do not look peened on their ends in a style like what you see on a lot of wooden handled fixed knives  . How do you get the tension right on everything without peening

The only silly questions are the ones not asked... The pins have been peened, I slightly countersink the scales, peen the pins and then sand them flush. Easy peasy

It still holds everything together, but looks and feels nicer. :tu:

I recently bought a handful of BNIB Economy scaled Waiters for $10 each with the view to re-scaling them.

Here's the first one...  Ebony with exposed brass pins.

I wonder if you could drill out a little hole in Alox scales and have flush pins like you do in the wood?

Hi

All of you guys are amazing, looks pro work!

here is the Kon-Tiki Knife from Wenger + 2 of my amature handles. I had the idea some time ago to have a SAK with different woods. It will be too thin and not so solid, what is your feel on this?

Very clever mate, I agree looks great  :hatsoff: :hatsoff:
Peter does the wood get the odd ding in it when you peen the pins which you sand out

As it would appear Peter does them the same way as me yes the wood does get small bruising which is sanded out later when taking everything to smooth.

I still would like to know if anyone have done scales with different woods, it is easy on a knife with tang. Two component epoxy together and the tang will function like an armour.
On a SAK the only help is the bushings,
to use a SAK scale of one piece wood is ok since it will have some flex even with glue, depends some on thickness.
With rivets and then peened and glue one will get a more sturdy construction.
To use different woods next to each other would be nice but not solid, since the glue will not flex on the wood surface to surface.
What one can do is use a thin wood base and glue the different woods on this, under some pressure. Then fit this on the SAK, may sound strange but solid is better. One can feel a SAK flex some under use. If the scales are thin they will flex along. A thick handle one will feel the SAK got a different feel. So if i use a base/fundation and wood pieces over it will be possible for a medium thick scale. It would still feel different  :D
Thin plastic scales are the best thing for all these factors, wood scales in many cases is for more easy use. It would atleast for me look nice with different woods next to each other.

I will see in a few months time maybe, if i will do this.
