Fenix E25 / E21 - Any Info about Them?
on: March 05, 2013, 09:13:33 PM
Hi, guys,

I wondered if anyone's had either of these two? Fenix E25 or E21 ? I've been wondering if  not to get one......  I've wanted something stronger than my average 1 x AAA favourites and I have $40 to spare...

Do you know anything about them? There isn't a single proper review on them, I think, either on YT or just online. The E21 has a nice momentary on function and a much preferred by me clicky on the back... but this makes it longer... the E25 has a weird button on the head... but is shorter... nad has three modes....

People on CPF seem to be quite positive about the E25.... I was worried about the weird switch on the head... but it shouldn't be any worse than a regular clicky switch on the back, should it

Sorry to say I don't have either of these but I have just been looking at the specifications and, while they are similar, there are enough differences to help make a choice I'd say.

E25 has the 3 levels; brighter high and a dimmer low than the E21, that's a win for the E25 IMO.

User interface; switch position is up to your preference of course, but the E25's does make the thing shorter.  The E21's tail switch is however now where I 'expect' a switch to be.  The E21's mode selection is wonderfully simple and I'm a fan of this style of twist UI.  Lets you decide before you turn the light on what mode you are going to use.  With the E25's I'm am not such a fan of having to cycle through modes to get to the one I want, unless you always use the flashlight in low mode I just find it a pain in the smurf.  That's a win for the E21 for my money.

If you can find an iTP SA2 still available, that's the light I would (and did  ;)) spend my money on.

Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

I've given away a couple of E21's and they are nice lights. Personally, I much prefer the tailcap switch of the E21.

If you are after high brightness, another light worth considering is Klarus's P2A.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

YES, btw, I did hesitate about that one, too :D Exactly THIS one. But then I decided to remain faithful to my Fenix love...

Lol, Gareth, this was a nice summing up, compare & contrast type of thing....

Ok, let me make it even simpler..

So, the pros:

Fenix E25

- shorter
- brighter
- 3 modes
- can tailstand (which I don't care about)

Fenix E21

- has a "normal" switch
- has a momentary on function

I think I read somewhere that the E25 has that memory thing, so it will always turn on in whatever mode you used last... i.e. I might not have to cycle through modes..

The thing is, I've decided to buy it from a local shop and it's more expensive than buying online... but I can't stand waiting for a month or more to get sth anymore... :D And though the two aren't that much apart in the price-range, the difference is still enough for me to choose the cheaper one, the E25. Which also makes me wonder, why would the E25 be cheaper, since it looks to be superior in functions and design.....i.e. more compact, brighter, longer beam distance, etc..

If the E25 has mode memory then it's an easy winner in my book.

That's good news, thanks for confirming it.  That makes it a very good light for a good price IMO.

I've been freezing outside, testing the light.... :D :D It's a cool thrower, indeed... at least for me :D My strongest light so far :D *happy me*

There's sth interesting on the bezel... almost at the tip it reads "HOT" and there's a sign... I wonder if they mean this part gets really hot with extended usage? *crazy* Perhaps.... Do your lights have this "warning"?!

LOL, not for a while yet. :D  Seriously, I've extremely happy with my Eagletac D25A clicky right now and I don't have an itch for another light just yet. ;)

Anyway; in the 2xAA format I'm still very happy with my iTP SA2 Eluma and, until there is a major development, I've yet to see a light that significantly improves on it. :tu:

Ok, the Fenix E25 has so far survived a couple of.... "tile floor impacts" successfully ... :D So the impact resistance is true... now I need to go swim with it to check how waterproof it is... :X :D

I've actually been wondering.... since, I guess, most(?!) or at least my E11 came with a spare rubber tail cap thing.. why doesn't the E25 also come with a spare switch head button? :tu: Not that I've ever changed one or smth... but does this mean they're unbreakable? I'm actually worried about it, due to its side position and all the friction it gets from a normal pocket carry.. I'm always careful when and how I put it in my pockets.

Fenix tailcap switches are easy to swap. The switch on your new light is in the head, which is a sealed unit.

I decided to take some time and share my impressions with the Fenix E25 which I've had for.... well, months :D

As a whole, I'm biased as I love Fenix and especially their E series :D

I'm not a fan of official tests, but the battery life seems pretty good, as advertised. I've used it for at least 12 hours on the lowest mode, plus plenty of daily&nightly play on the lowest 26 lumens (on which it is supposed to last for 26hrs). I haven't drained the battery till the last .. drop of energy, so, I assume it could last on a very very very low/dim light for an hour or two more.

It has great throw, indeed, it's my most powerful light so far (don't laugh :D). Despite it being a thrower, it also has great spill, so it can very well be used in a room. I've used it in its candle mode extremely often. It provides for a nice soft light in the whole room.

It's rugged and of the familiar Fenix quality and design.

It has a mode-memory and hasn't ever skipped modes or frozen on one mode or caused any trouble.

It isn't really tactical, because it takes half  second of pressing the switch to turn it on, but it's not meant to be tactical either.

The only disadvantage for me, personally, has been that the switch is so "flat" that you can't/or do it with difficulty turn it on/circle through modes without actually looking at the light and SEEing where the switch is. It's sometimes difficult to feel where exactly the switch is.

So, as a whole, I like it a lllot. It's a little bigger than I'd normally EDC, but I carry it all the time when I wear sth. with bigger pockets :D

I forgot that the E25 has mode memory, one of my favourite features.  Happy to hear you are getting alone with it. :)
