Mini Titanium Keychain - Kickstarter
on: March 05, 2013, 11:38:46 PM
Just wanted to share my project on Kickstarter, I noticed somebody else posted about my Bottle Grenade on here while my project was going on, so I hope this is welcome.

Interesting designs. Great ides for using the neodymium magnet.
Tempting, any plans for a stainless steel version for the smaller wrench?

Let's just hope that if you reach your goal you'll remember the fine folks here that may have helped.

Xelkos - I have thought about Stainless, and would of actually rather done stainless instead of Aluminum, as Aluminum is for very light duty.  It's still not out of the question, do you have a certain grade of stainless in mind?  I could always do a one-off for you aswell.

Depending on cost I'd be quite interested in a large stainless WTF too. Cheaper than titanium and less flimsy than aluminium. Given the overlap between metric and imperial (like 19 and 3/4), how practical would it be to just have one jaw? Maybe like the Pocket Wrench but open. That I would give good money for.

It's a same you can't really have an open ended wrench with that does the big nuts at the base for strength. Ah well, one day someone will figure out how to break physics ;)

I stopped at 5/8" / 17mm because it fits in your hand and still has strength out that far, if i went to 3/4" I'd have to make the Large one alot wider, as it sits now it's about 1.320" wide and 4.400" Long, and it feels really good in the hand this size.  I can make anything, and don't have an issue doing custom things, but right now this Kickstarter is Kickin' my butt. :)

SS makes much more sense for a wrench than either titanium or aluminium.

Aye. Figured the smaller one could be suspended from a ring mail necklace/choker, lanyard, etc. Was an idea anyhow.  :D

I agree about Stainless for a hardcore wrench, and that is my plans for after Kickstarter hopefully, but as I started out making all these myself, and Stainless is a pain to machine. Also I know that alot of people would love to have anything Titanium, and the Mini is a "cheap and useful" piece of Titanium, that is why the project has done well. I'm also throwing if free anodizing and a free Stainless Steel Cable Keyring, I'd say for 30$ you won't find a better Titanium deal that is as useful as this, but maybe I'm biased?

Have you looked at the page from top to bottom to see what I'm offering?  If we get to my next stretch goal then Bottle grenades will once again be available.

I would really like some comments on how I could make this better, or even one-off stuff that will fit you. I'm all for doing any custom work if that is what you need/want.

There is nothing wrong with either your wrench or bottle grenade, but Im personally not into one piece tools.  For folks here Id wager 90% already have a bottle opener on them, in the form of a SAK, or multitool or other.  For the wrench, I really really love the pocketwrench II (and at $14).  Its stainless steel, works on a variety of nut sizes, and is a great accompaniment to a full size multitool as it is so slim it can slip in a sheath along with the main tool.

I've toyed with the idea of making up a one piece, machine it myself type of tool, but Im satisfied with what I already have and unless I want to just collect neat little tools, I just dont see the need.

The kickstarter thing is interesting though and if it was open to people outside of the US I likely would have tried it as well.

I would also agree that stainless steel is the right choice for that tool.   :tu:

Just put up a new stretch goal for 4130 Chrome-Moly, sandblasted and parkerized.

The picture is just a sample, no engravings and the pry bar was done on the grinding wheel instead of the mill.

I checked again and now it is open to US and UK people.  So if you're in the UK, start up a project I guess!

From what I gather, there's more than one crowdfunding venture out there.

I'm sure one of them caters for talented Canadians :D

Good that it worked out for you!
I hope you can fulfill all the orders.

I like that you did not try to put 536 functions in your 1 piece tool, but kept it basic and uncluttered.
