Stone Scaled SAK pictures thread - (Picture Heavy)
on: March 13, 2013, 10:21:25 PM
Looks like there is more to SAK scales other than bone, composite, metal, and wood. Probably are some colored glass scales out in the world too even. Not found any covered or layer in leather, or snake/reptile skin yet.

Have any Stone scaled SAKs to share? Or photos of such??

Here are some from the Australian Blade Forums.

Some beautiful looking knives.  :tu:

The top photo is of the Victorinox RocKnife Classics, also done as Ambassadors.

The bottom photo is a selection of Coach leather-handled Classics, Deluxe Classics with lacquer and gold handles; and gold-lip pearl, horn, and stag.

I've seen Classics with various semi-precious stones, such as malachite, lapis and coral. Very pretty but out of my price range.

Nice thread! I have a doubt, are those SAKs posted by Xelkos part of any special release from Victorinox (like those from Karl), or are all mod SAKs? All of them are beautiful but would like to learn more....

Those are nice.

I am from Michigan so it would be cool to see scales made out of Petoskey stones! :tu:

Oh, please don't stop torturing me. They look great and I imagine they feel good in the paws as well. >:D Those greenish/bluish/reddish ones and that one cut diagonally really appeal to me. :tu:

Does anyone know where to secure one of these beauties or are they personally done customs?

I was told by the seller that the ones I posted were made by a Jeweler down in Florida in very limited numbers.

Here are a few more official ones.

I think that dealer from whom I got those knives didn't know what he was talking about; misinformation passed on to me, and then onto you. :/

Yeah, I wasn't certain about that info, and I couldn't verify it online.

There are plenty of "animal skin" SAKS in the Urban Chameleon Series.

PTRSAK gave me this idea a bit ago... though indirectly.  :D

Are those acrylic/clear resin plastic molding kits still around? The ones you can mix bugs, rocks, plants, etc, into then cure in a mold? Was thinking one could use beach, desert sand, and other attractive things to make molded SAK scales. Could even so so far as having scale tools grooves, standard & Plus size, if one could make a suitable mold.

The idea was more about native rocks, sand, beach siftings, etc. that would otherwise not be allowed to sold in their raw state. So one could have said material encased in an acrylic plastic material - and also made for more attractive SAK handles from otherwise common material.

Hard to find a sample pictures without the correct keywords...
