The Dremel (or clone ) Owners Club
on: March 16, 2013, 10:18:18 PM
The wife got me a Dremel 3000 last weekend. I would like to suggest that, it too, is a multitool and needs its own thread.  Yea, yea..so ya got to plug it in.  ;)
Seems like people either love a dremel or hate it. I'm pretty partial to it myself. We had a really underpowered one for years..the kind you plug in the battery to recharge. It's pert near a gutless wonder.

This 3000 is far more powerful than the last one. Seems with all the mod'ing going on that other here would have them and share in their uses. With all the attachments and accessories looks like there are many uses we would find for them.

bought a 8 dollar box today at Sears to keep all my bits together. Dremel unit stores in the bottom.

my new toy..covered in hickory dust from todays work.

I love mine, it fits in the or clone category, but it works great for all kinds of jobs. All modders need one!

I have 4, all with special jobs so they permanently have specific tools in them.  One for buffing with a wool buff on it, one for chopping up metal with a cutoff disk,  one with a router bit mounted with the router accessory and one with a jewelers bur.
PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

I have a Dremel and a 12V mini drill that is a similar size. It is useful because it has a chuck while the Dremel is just a 1/8 collet.
I have a load of dental burrs and although they wear out quicker than the carbide Dremel bits they are very handy but they are only about 2.5mm shank so the chuck is good for using them.

How does the 300 compare to the more pricey ones?
I've heard mixed reviews.

I think that it is perfect for me-pretty much occasional hobby use with good price, but it's still capable for almost every job, even for heavy use.
I use it mostly for polishing and sanding.

I picked up the Dremel 300 + 55 accessory pack when I saw it on sale for under 50 eur some time ago... it's the same tool we were using at work to rework the defects in the surface of the resin coat of the fibreglass mold... and significantly better than the generic/house brand battery pack one I got in B&Q when we were living in the UK. If I had a proper workshop I'd be tempted to also get all the jigs and fixtures...

I have a clone, but it works quite well.  I have killed quite a few motor tools over the years, including Craftsman and Dremel models, corded and cordless.  I love them- they are really handy for almost every kind of work, from mechanical to wood to household stuff.

Most importantly, get yourself a good flex shaft for it!  Hanging the body of the tool and working with a much lighter handle works wonders!  It makes a good thing that much better.

think that flex shaft attachment looks fetching. I reckon it would save on motor wear in the long run by keeping dust from a project at bay.

Makes the tool easier to use as well as the motor is hung up and the flex shaft is lighter than the motor ;)
