Power Chainsaws HELP
on: March 10, 2026, 02:36:00 AM
I have a small Ozito chainsaw which works (sort of)
It is a little underpowered but it was cheap.
Its now leaking faster than I can fill it with lube oil, so it needs replacement.

Im thinking of upgrading to a Dewalt brushless 300mm chainsaw (dont need much bigger)
Has anyone here got one?
Are they any good?
i have read mixed reviews and they seem to have some issues.
I prefer Dewalt simply because I have several Dewalt tools and plenty of batteries.

any real world experience or suggestions would be gratefully accepted

Thanks in advance

Same here.  Back in the day, everything I had was gas-powered.  I got tired of the maintenance, fuel that goes bad over time, changing spark plugs and all of the rest.  Now everything I have is Dewalt - from work lights to air pumps to lawn equipment.

I have a Dewalt chain saw that is about 12", which may be the 300mm you are talking about.  I do not use it much, but like all of my Dewalt products its been 100% reliable.  Just keep it topped off with chain lube, and adjust the tension from time to time.   I don't know of any reason not to get one.

got my 300mm Dewalt chainsaw.
I decided t compare it to my reciprocating saw.
I had a couple of hardwood fence posts I wanted to cut up and use for firewood when travelling ion my van (small pieces about 8 inches long)
So I first tried the reciprocating saw which I have used in the past.
sent two batteries flat, nearly cooked the saw (shut down twice overheat) and took forever (yes I used the appropriate blade and it was new)

Then I set to the other one with my new chainsaw.
Tore through the hardwood like butter, never even got warm and no impact on the battery at all.
liking this new toy.

My Stihl 024 is about 20+ years old, from a design from about 1987.  It has a magnesium case, I think, and I haven't noticed it leaking the 50:1 mix, but the bar and chain oil leaks.  Drips off the chain certainly about a dream overnight.

Do the 'lectric ones drip bar and chain oil?

The only chainsaw I have is a 10” but it’s on a 9-1/2ft pole, it did its job I originally got it for plus ended up trimming our neighbors tree,, it’s a kobalt, I also have a whole bunch of their outdoor tools so everything uses the same battery,, even the lawnmower..

I bought a 6" mini chainsaw off of Amazon and used it to clear my property of a lot of trees. Came with 2 batteries. It was cheap. Best money I ever spent. I also have a 10" pole also that is battery driven as well. That mini saw is the best though for small trees.

I just used a DeWalt battery-powered pole saw to kill a 6" cedar that had fallen over a fence, and also deployed a DeWalt cordless pruner which is also awesome.

I have been reading up on chainsaws and was horrified to discover how they were invented.

Believe it or not they were invented as a child birth extraction tool to cut the pelvic bone.
I kid you not, look it up.
What a horrifying thought.

I have a 10" Worx chainsaw powered by a drill battery.  It also has an extension pole, and is meant for lopping limbs off trees, but last month I used it to cut up a ten to twelve inch thick tree that fell across the driveway in my camp.

I then cut slots into the log to make a Swedish Fire Log out of it.

I'd say the chainsaw was pushing pretty hard to do all of that, but in the end, it did it.

I think if that's the kind of thing I do regularly I'd probably want to get a bigger one, but for cutting anything under 8-10 inches thick, I think this thing is great.

Do the 'lectric ones drip bar and chain oil?

Yes, because regardless of what powers them, that chain needs to be lubricated.  The only way to keep it lubricated is to drop on it.

Modern ones are a bit better, but in the end, the only real way to lubricate a chainsaw blade is to drop oil on it.
