My new phone
on: April 09, 2008, 01:37:19 AM
I just got a new phone- I didn't need a new phone, but I did need a new PDA, and since I was eligible for a hardware upgrade through the phone company, I got it free.  Not surprisingly, this was much more appealing to me than paying $400 for a new dedicated PDA...  :ahhh

So, after a bit of research, I ended up getting the HTC Touch:

It's not as powerful as the dedicated one I was looking at, but for a $400 savings, I'll make do!

That's a really cool phone Def. My cell phone is ancient by that standard.

Yeah, this one is pretty cool actually.  It feels odd, answering my PDA, but I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually.

While it's not as powerful as the PDA I was looking at, but it does everything I need to and then some.  It also has unlimited web surfing and email features, so as soon as I get it all set up, I'll hopefully be able to keep on top of things a bit better, even though my new job is doing it's best to kill me.

Plus, it has a 2.0mp camera with full motion video and sound, which is pretty cool too! :D

Very nice Def, would be good to hear a little review once you've used it for a while :)

It takes MicroSD cards, not regular ones, and so far it seems to work pretty good.  It's running WM6, which is new to me, and it also has what HTC calls the TouchFlo interface which gives quicker access to media and phone features.  It's pretty cool so far, but I'm still trying to install/test all the PPC Software that I use on a regular basis, like The Core Pocket Media Player and MS Reader.

It's also small.  The whole unit is only slightly bigger than the screen on my last one.  There are a few other drawbacks to it that are well documented on most review/info sites, like the memory card slot being very awkward to get at, so if you find yourself swapping cards fairly often, you may want to look at another model.

I'm not thrilled with the included screen protector, so I've ordered replacements from www.Nushield.com, which is IMHO the best screen protector money can buy- plus they are cheap! :D

I'll put together a more detailed review when I get some time, and I manage to get it set up properly.

I like that phone Def, a PDA in a cell phone is right up my alley.

My Razr has been AWOL for more than a month and if it doesn't show up soon I'm going to have to replace it.

This may shock you but I have my eyes on an iPhone.

Paris will be very impressed! :D

I have been against the idea of a SmartPhone for some time now- to me, combining these things can be more hassle than it's worth, as battery life on modern phones isn't that great to begin with.  Pair it with a PDA and you will have to charge it almost constantly.  Still, as far as compromises go, this one isn't bad at all- so far.  It doesn't play video as smoothly as most other PDAs I've used, but I may be able to fix that with more fiddling.  I've adjusted to the screen size quite well, and now when I pick up my iPAQ it seems HUGE!

Hooking up the Bluetooth headset I got was a breeze, which is one of the beautiful things about Bluetooth.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but the Touch series from HTC was designed to be an iPhone killer according to most of the magazines.

I've been very happy with my AT&T Tilt which is made by HTC.  Can't live without the thing.  Battery life is my only complaint but I knew that before hand so I'm fine with it.

It is amazing where technology is going these days.Even Truckers are carrying PDA's and Iphones ,GPS and such.I am down with the Cellphone aspect but as for the rest I still do it the old fashioned way with an Atlas,Notebook, and a CB.

Def,

Does that phone come with a plain edge or combo edge knife? :D

Someday, someone will merge the phone/computer/camera to the multitool and we'll be set!!

I haven't found one yet...

I can't take credit for these, as everyone knows that my Photoshop skills are soo poor they are legendary, and I'd also know better than to put Leatherman PST II implements on an iPOD and then stick a Victorinox logo in the corner!
