Non locking Gerber 400 series black oxide
on: April 09, 2008, 07:10:14 PM
Anyone know the production run dates of a non locking Gerber ( same size as 400 series but doesnt say on box) multitool in the black oxide finish?

Found it at a giant swap meet and just trying to find out a little info about it. It is the same size as my Gerber 400 series but has no scissors like it. Has a file too which the 400 doesnt have. Hmmm.

Hi Pacu,

Any date info on the box itself?  Leatherman used to change the date on their boxes (no doubt subject to using up their box inventory).  Let us know.

Best - Joe

Here is the info on the side of the box.

Gerber
Black needlenose Multi-Plier Tool with Ballistic Cloth Sheath
Item No. 50004

In a splash effect on the front of the box it says     NEW JAW STYLE

the upc  013658500044

no dates anywhere on the box or the paperwork inside. I was looking for maybe a copyright date on the paperwork but nothing.

different bolsters down on the end. The tools tend to clump if you open them all at once.

the 400 and the black oxide open side by side

box it came in --a bit shop worn

the end of the box with info as stated above.

I think the general consensus is that it's just called a Multiplier. It's some where between 91 and 97 i think it was. There's a bit of info floating around in various thread about them. I can't find the thread with all the variations on it but its around here somewhere.

Thanks alot for posting that thread. There is some good stuff on all the variations of the multi pliers.

Seems like there would be a market for the fisherman model multipliers. I have the regular version of them and i found them handy for catfishing and taking the hooks out of snapping turtles who get my bait.

Looks like you've got a Version #5 there pacu. Certainly a Multi-Plier, but a fifth generation one.

(the 400 and 600 series tools - with locking blades - didn't come out until a year or two after yours was made)

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I HAVE ONE VERY SIMILIAR. I KNEW IT WAS OLDER BECAUSE THE SLIDING HEAD MECHANISM IS DIFFERENT. INTERESTING... THANKS FOR POSTING THIS.
