Trying to force a blade off. Coupling pressure with a very sharp object can only go one way-straight thru. Those smaller Vic blades are mighty sharp. Need to find some kevlar gloves.

Must be a wave of bad luck. Today I had my first Ti dust fire. I only ground the edges off some 58mm scales, then ground a tiny bit of mild steel, but one spark set off the whole pile of Ti dust. Man that burned bright and hot! Luckily I was wet sanding so I had a bucket of water right there. Im now removing all the junk plastic guards around the grinder and mounting a metal tray that I'll put water in to catch the hot stuff. It was quite scary for a few minutes there! I think I will upgrade my shop to be fire extinguisher equipped now too.

As for cuts.. Ive lost track of how many time Ive cut myself. The best advice I can give, is go to home depot and try on all the work gloves, the mechanics style that are tight fit. I dont find I lose much dexterity and they have literally saved my skin so many times they paid for themselves quickly. The 2 pieces of gear I wear all the time now are gloves and a full face shield. I like my hands and eyes! Well also hot embers in the face skin hurt too.

I agree with Syph on the safety measures, especially eye/face protection. Nothing is as irreplaceable as your eyes!

for gloves, I know they're expensive but I've got on well with ones from Ironclad in the past.
You can also get some fairly thin and not horrifically expensive cut resistant gloves and they're not too bad.

How about dust mask/respirators? What does everyone use? Once healed I will be working with some G10.

A couple of weeks ago I took a dremal cut off disc a couple of mm into the tip of my thumb. That smarted too. I use a dust bee gone mask. Quite good as it is washable and does not fog up my glasses.

Make sure its rated for glass fibers. Those g10, carbon fiber and the like are nasty stuff

Yeah, safety first!! Though I say that, and am usually the last one to use PPE.

For a mask, I use one that has replaceable filters, and you can also get filters for different things, dust, paint, ect. They cost more, but are worth having!

I use a asbestos rated dual filter for mine. Never can be too safe

Ti dust fire - nasty!!!!!

Don't try and extinguish it using standard media, use sand or shot blasting medium nto smother it, and leave it FAR longer than you think necessary to cool down

A bucket of sand sounds like a good idea to keep handy. Im going to be more cautious about managing the waste dust now and making sure to not let it build up. There was alot more than I thought when I cleaned out the inside.
