There seems to be a Classic or two floating around here and there, I never give them the respect they deserve. Coincidentally ordered a blue Alox 2015 Classic yesterday. Pics on arrival.  :)

You've just made me realize that i have literally no  single plain red cellidor/nylon SAK in my collection
My "old" red Cellidor Compact became a Micarta Compact and my Eco Sentry is now turned to Ti..

Well, the 58mm is a great series, indeed. The Classic lives on my keychain.

And I really like to carry the Rambler as my EDC knife/tool. Loving it. The Classic is not bad, but I really like the extra thickness of the Rambler. Oh... and the blade opens the correct side (oposite to the keyring - what I highly prefer)

Why do the blades open on the 'incorrect' side? Is there a good reason or is it an oversight?

Oh... sorry. I didn´t read your replie. Well, IMO the 58s are great for keychain carry. Or with an added lanyard on the keyring. The Classic knife blades opens on the side of keyring. The wrong side for me. Most of the time something is in the way or needs be kept back from the blade.

The Rambler opens on the right side - opposite to the keyring. So the extension with the lanyard even provides a better grip and nothing is in its way.

That´s why the Rambler opens correctly while the Classic opens incorrect.

But that´s just my point of view.
Thanks Andi. It seems it's an oversight on Vics part then. I may have to mod mine then - Shouldn't be too difficult.

The other oldie

The scales again seem to be some sort of Celluloid but with a nice wood grain

That inlay is spectacular.     I've never seen an inlay like it on a SAK.

Is the blade steel stainless or carbon?

Look forward to pics of the new one.

my oldest 58mm

From aprox 1930's /40's (Oh and the nicest 58mm I have :) )

Stamped Elsener Swiss

Jadar:

That is a beauty!   :2tu:

I see that the file is a real file, not that stippled thing that comes on the 58mm today.  What are the scales made of?

The scales appear to be some early plastic / ivory replacement maybe celluloid

The inlay is very neatly done it a very nice little knife.

I picked up another yesterday of a similar age but the scales have been given a nice wood grain effect ... i will post some pics when I clean it up

The USPS came through today. New 2015 dark blue Classic shown with the current EDC Cadet. I wasn't quite prepared for how small this is! The Alox scales definitely shrink it down a bit. May need a Mini Champ for a bit more to hang on to!    :D

EDIT- Or maybe a Rambler. Can someone tell me how much thicker the Rambler is compared to the Classic? I imagine at least a little bit, the Philips/caplifter looks fairly thick.. Thanks in advance.   :salute:

This one gave me serious headache - it actually crossed the Atlantic three times because the German postal service was utterly incapacitated due to strikes of customs, was unable to find my door and finally too incompetent to keep hold of the package for longer than three days so I could have got it.

But finally it arrived, my LBJ-gift Bijou.

Rambler is 10mm thick, Classic 9mm. Both Cellidor.
