The Handyman Owners Club

I thought I'd start yet another owners club, for the Vic Handyman this time. Somehow I think that not many appreciate this model. I find it bulky but not unyieldly and it covers almost any small or medium sized task I may come by. It lives in my bag, or coat pocket in winter. Behold:

I never thought about carrying mine but it actually has a very useful tool configuration.

You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

Big fan , the only SAK that's seen EDC for about the last year . I think of it as the thinking man's Swisschamp ( don't need no stinking fish scaler/magnifier ) .

I wouldn't be so harsh. Both these could come in handy :facepalm: :D at a give moment but I've never considered getting them. However, if Vic dwarfs could put an in-line Phillips driver on the pliers' back spring  that would really be something I think. Don't know how to put this, while the Vic Handyman isn't my favourite SAK it probably is the most treasured one. I believe I could use a "my precious" emoticon right now >:D

I just came across this thread sort of by accident.

I guess I'm a member. I inherited my late father-in-law's Vic Handyman.

Here's the thread where I discuss it.
http://forum.multitool.org/swiss-forum/al's-handyman/

And a pic...

I personally think it's a little thick for comfort, but still a great tool with a ton of function. This one is well over 20 years old, and still looks excellent.

I wanted one of these, but the price over what a Ranger costs is to much for some essentially useless pliers.
That single layer seems to add twenty to thirty dollars per knife.

I tried out a Handyman because it has just about the same tools as my Swisstool Spirit X but at only 5.5 ounces (which is right at that tipping point for me in regards to pocket carry. Any heavier, and things get noticeable).

Why not a Craftsman since it's the same knife but with a T-Phillips? ?   I prefer a corkscrew because it can hold the eyeglass screwdriver and I've used the corkscrew to untie knots.

As for the pliers, you have to see them as Turbo Tweezers rather than pliers. In that capacity, they do very well.

I don't have a daily need for a saw and a file, so I sold my Handyman. But it's a great SAK and a recommend it.

It's been a while since this club saw a new member, but I'd like to become one!

I've been carrying a Handyman since 1992. It has been a bit problematic at high-school since we weren't allowed to carry knives. I have however always carried it and always referred to it as a tool  :D
The Handyman is a thicker knife but does not have any redundant tools in my opinion. I'd hate to miss this one! It's been my EDC for nearly 25 years now.

The connoisseurs might see the knife in the image is not 25 years old. And they'd be correct. Unfortunately I've lost/misplaced my first Handyman. I couldn't do without and bought another.
Also, the scales are not original. The scales cracked around 20 years of Handyman carry so I decided to celebrate it by placing black plus scales. The added pen and pin are used all the time.

Originally I carried the Handyman on a leather Victorinox strap like this.

The first one lasted me years, when I replaced it with a new one it wore down in less than two years. I realise now that this is a belt hanger and I've been using it wrong.
The length is ideal for me however, so I made a similar one from paracord. It has the added benefit of clip hooks on both ends. Now I can take of just the knife, that way the strap does not go in the way.
The light on the strap is a Photon Freedom Covert.

Does this club include the Craftsman?

I chose he Craftsman over the Handyman for the Phillips. I don't drink wine and there are at least 3 other tools on the Craftsman for taking out tight knots. I don't wear glasses so I don't need the micro-driver. The Craftsman is my EDC with occasional rotation between the Deluxe Tinker.

Great sak, but i hardly ever carried it because it's just too big and bulky for my taste. He keeps it in the car :cheers:

Hi everyone, this is my 1990/1991 Victorinox Handyman 1.3773.

I love it and I’ve never head problems on carrying it. I’ve been using it about 10 years ago in camping tent. Now it is in a box. I think I have used every single tool, including the corckscrew with whom I opened good bottles of wine.

Recently I riconditioned it, I cleaned it, polished the tools, oiled, fixed a bending in one layer and gently sharpened blades, scissors etc. with an original Victorinox sharpening tool.

Also I replaced toothpick, tweezers and scales. One scale was broken after I drop the Sak, the other one deformed and didn’t fit perfectly the body.

As you can see it has the following differences compared to the current model:

1) old pliers type;

2) old corkscrew type;

3) old metal saw type;

4) small flat-head screwdriver instead of the hook;

5) old keyring type (made of aluminium and slimmer) positioned in the same side of the corckscrew;

Presently I’d like to buy a new one and organizing camping again and collecting this vintage one.

I'll join this club due to having a very generous boss...!
I wish they still made the Craftsman though, that would be perfect, not really got any use for the corkscrew.

It would be nice if it did;

I picked up this nice Craftsman at the markets.
It appears to have been unused, other than pocket time.

Not a mark on any tool or the blades.
It was full of crap though, and very stiff.

I gave it a nice bath, a drop of oil and some serious massaging to bring it back to health.

Its now like a new knife.
Its because of this knife that I purchased my Hercules.
Almost the same tool set.
