New-Old Ranger!
on: April 12, 2008, 10:47:24 AM

I sent my old school Ranger RD7 back to Justin to get Tan Micarta scales to replace my orange G10 ones and
reprofile my blade spine (after I beat it last summer with a rock! it's all I had at the time and I wanted to test it :twak: )
and here she is;

Justin did it over this past weekend (mister speedy) and let me tell you it's perfect :cheers:
G10 is an excellent scale material but for me, not for big choppers, to hard and too cold.

it was a small bowling ball size stone, took some chunks outta it too, but it was a heavy rock.

I was batoning a fallen tree for fire wood 5 inches ish (I didn't have my heavier tools, axe and such handy and I was far from home),
and when I was done, the edge of the blade still looked brand new and was still sharp.

I won't do that again, but a least I know it can take such "foolish" abuse!

I know I know, dumb dawg! We were moving and were at a camp site, and she wanted a fire, and most of my stuff was buried/packed away
and I looked for other wood/logs to baton it with, but their were none and the park ranger said I could use the fallen trees and all I had was
my RD7  :-\

Any RD model can take that and it'll still be asking for more!  Yeah, Black or Green Micarta's are favorites of mine. Somehow I end up with a knife with something other than Micarta though.  ???  Anyway, shweet RD there, WhichDawg! May it serve you well in good times and bad.

Considering that you beat this thing on a rock WD, I gotta say it looks like it held up pretty well.

I'm like you Dawg, I prefer Micarta to G10.

However, Scibeer bead-blasted the orange G10 on my Safari Hunter, and I have to say it gives a great gripping surface.
