The Mag Lite 6D cell...practical for what?
on: December 07, 2006, 05:13:44 AM
I can't imagine using one of these...it's like a small baseball bat.  It can't fit into tight spaces or anything...I guess it's main attraction is as a weapon with a light bulb ???

Yup.  Having worked security as many years as I did I saw many of these in the hands of folks that were underpaid and put in dangerous situations by irresponsable companies.
I never had a 6D myself- my light of choice for many years was a 6C that was converted to a weapon by having the tailcap weighted with pennies and the batteries wrapped in paper to keep them from bouncing around on impact and lessening the force of the blow.  Of course, at the level I was at, I carried numerous weapons (licensed weapons included) but used Wilma an awful lot simply because she was what was in my hands when poo poo hit the fan.  Was a decent excuse in court too- "Yes your honor, he attacked me so fast I didn't have time to pull my baton/pepper spray etc, so I pounded the snot out of him with the flashlight that was in my hand..."

Wilma doesn't look like somebody I'd wanna tangle with. (Are those teeth marks there on the tailcap?)

That 6 C looks like you could get a better grip on it than the 6 D.

I have smaller hands so I like the C models over the D, especially when it's cold.

If nothing else you could use one of those to assist NASA with their space station activities, or alternately illuminate craters on the moon.

Some years ago a close friend had a neighbor who was a State Police officer. The officer stopped at his house with the car lights flashing and urgently requested to borrow my friends 6D Mag Lite from his pickup truck, he stated one of the local cities had a mororcylce gang riot in progress and all off duty officers were called out.

Two days later the 6D Mag was returned with blood and hair in the end cap threads.  The officer would not discuss what he did with the flashlight.

Regards,
FK

He must have dropped it while on patrol in an abbatoir...

It's amazing how often that happens.

Now I know why I keep coming back..it's not for the great information I get here, it's just for Bobs awesome photoshop skills and humor :)  By the way, put me down for one of those tools will you?  After the candy is gone and my teeth are rotted, i'll be able to remove them with the pliers  O0

That's not a Photoshop job- Bob actually has three of those!  One BullWinkle, one Rocky and one Natasha.  He has been scouring eBay for the Boris Badenov model and the rare one with Sherman on one handle and Mr Peabody on the other!

You guys are lucky I'm so modest and humble. After Leatherman or one of the other big multitool companies picks up my idea and starts paying me millions in royalties, I'll still come back here and visit from time to time.   :D

Thread Ressurection!!!

Just wondering where you got that rubber(?) guard on that Mag...I almost picked up a big c cell Mag on ebay...until it exceded $50 :-X  I was expecting to pay under $30 shipped...I didn't know that model was so popular..

Anyways if I DO get one at some point I'd like something like that guard on it.

Check with your local police supply store, or look online for a "trumbull stop" which is what they are actually called.

I have wanted a large Maglite for years but have never taken the plunge.

The 6d looks huge which is good as I am looking for a large flashlight, but I think it may be too big. So I did a search for a 6c and couldn't find any  ???  So the 4c looks like an option.  Anyone had any experiences with these?
I'm back!!

The 6C I think was discontinued a while back.  I don't know for sure, but they may still be available through police supply stores or through special order from an authorized Mag dealer.  Any of the Mags you get are going to be the same quality- they are all good.  I know, I know, you can get 200 times the performance and 800 times the power from a light small enough to lose in your pockets, LED drop in kits aren't as good as a Streamlight/HDC/Fenix/Eye of Sauron or whatever light is popular this week, but lets see you use one of those cute little lithium powered LED jobbies to help lever a car out of a mud hole!

Size doesn't always matter, but when it does, there are no substitutes.
