30th anniversary tool
on: April 14, 2013, 10:32:07 PM
2013 is the 30th anniversary of Leatherman. Does anyone know which tool will be given the special 30th anniversary edition treatment?

I am unsure. There was a thread a little whole back about it.

They are both being coated with DLC. I want them when they come out.

I would probably like to get that combo set, but I already have a Rebar and Micra, so it would be a rather redundant purchase.  I really wouldn't have much use for a ST300, but another Micra wouldn't really hurt anything.  I really have enough plier based MTs, so this would be a good collector purchase if I would keep them in their package, but I wouldn't do that more than likely.  I like to play with them too much, and I would probaby carry the Micra some.  I guess it will also depend on the price, as I imagine it won't be all that cheap, especially with the DLC coating and the fact that they're the 30th anniversary package.

There isn't a delay in getting them out. They're just not releasing them until July (their actual anniversary).  So until then, sadly, all we can do is wait.

This was Leatherman's FaceBook reply, to me asking when the 30th Anniversary ST300 & Micra would be available ;

It's only a few months until July, you'll survive the wait...

Yeah that's right, you stated the month in an earlier post.  I had forgotten that.  Yeah, I suppose I'll make it until then ;)

Dunc, where can I order it from in the UK? Would it be cheaper to get Bruce to send it over to me?

Have a word with Whitby http://www.whitbyandco.co.uk/products  and ask them who is stocking them but remember Leatheman hasn't started shipping them yet.
You could try asking someone in the states but I wouldn't fancy trying to get that value through customs without getting hit for charges.

Sweet crap on a shingle! :ahhh :o  Well there goes any chance of getting that.  Even if I could manage to buy that set, I probably wouldn't dare to contaminate them by opening the package and touching them.  There ought to be gold or diamonds on them for that kind of cash

Oh really?  Sorry for my spasmic reaction   In that case, I feel bad for the crew on "the other side of the pond" as some say.  Is this the norm for any/all MTs/SAKs over there?

Yes it's normal , a Wave is £100 in the high street  :(  Leatherman and other companies use import agents , I suppose it makes things easier for them by only having to deal with when company when selling their products overseas and it also works well for servicing and warranty work , but the importers obviously put their % on top .

I can't speak for the rest of us here, but in Belgium the prices on Leatherman tools are pretty steep, here are some examples:

Leatherman Wave = 139 € = 183 $
Leatherman Rebar =  85 € = 112 $
Leatherman Charge TTi = 229 € = 300 $
Leatherman Skeletool CX = 150 € = 197 $
Leatherman Sidekick = 67 € = 88 $
Leatherman Wingman = 50 € = 66 $
Leatherman Style PS = 35 € = 46 $

And for Swisstools and Spirits, well, you can't find them anywhere here, only ones I've seen were in an army store where they had 3 Spirits and 1 Swisstool, and I've ended up buying them all ...  ::) (but at discount prices, because nobody else wanted to buy them  :D).

And ordering them from the importer himself is a true pain in the *ss, I've ordered 3 Spirits from them and waited for about 5 months and listened to their lies over and over again untill I gave up.  Regular SAK's like the Swisschamp, Huntsman or Explorer are pretty easy to find, but the Swisstool and Spirit ...  :poh:.

Wow guys, those are some crazy prices :o  I complain that it's tough to afford to support my MT/SAK habit, but I can't imagine trying to do so at those prices.
