  • In a world of compromise, some don't.

Picked up a few of those a while back.
They were sold at the factory outlet stores.
I also have a few Victorinox soldiers with no year stamp as well. Both are quite common and not that rare yet.

Aside from factory stores, some also made their way to dealers - one of the ones Chako has came from a overpriced army surplus place that sells Victorinox and Wenger, amongst other brands.

I got a Vic Champ a while back with just "stainless" marked on the tang. I suspect
it is a Japanese knock-0ff. Doesn't have the telltail scissors "bump" of the Chinese
knock-offs. On my "Japanese" SAK, every tool is correct; only "errors' I found are
the Vic logo is painted on and the standard Vic minidriver doesn't fit the corkscrew,
but the knife did come with it's own. Knock-off or factory error? I vote Knock-off.

Are you saying it's legit or a knockoff? Too early for my feeble brain to function.

Lately there have been some Wenger Soldiers without the cross (shield). In the factory store a few years ago I have been told that the "no stamp"-version was done by mistake. But both Wenger error knives have boxes that indicate that they have no cross or stamp (marquage).
Victorinox said that alox knives without cross were never made on purpose and the ones in the fotos must have slipped through quality control.

I think I prefer the knife blade without a stamp and the scales without a cross. I really like the clean lines . Looks great in my opinion :D
