What happens when deals go wrong?
on: April 19, 2013, 09:27:04 AM
So far, I have made a few deals with two 'established' members that have gone well. I was wondering if the multitool forum offers any form of protection for buyers when deals turn sour. I have been happy to pay via paypal as a 'gift' so that the sellers do not have to pay paypal fees, but this leaves me unprotected if the item does not arrive, or is not as described. Is there a way members can leave feedback on deals, and does the forum have the power to expel members if they are reported to break a deal?
In the trade forum, do we need to have both 'Tools for Sale' and Deals & Auctions'? It seems they are the same thing, and we should simply have just Tool for Sale, and replace the 'Deals & Auctions' with a new section to feedback on members, to report on their experience with the deals, and which member can be trusted.

I don’t know if you have seen the feedback section? You can post your experiences with other members here  :tu:

I mostly use the Deals section to post a ‘heads up’ when I find something cheap on an external site
There’s often interesting stuff there  ;)

I've done a few 'trades' and have no complaints about anyone so far, I've found everyone here to be proper gentlemen (and ladies i'm sure) the problem is only going to be a there if new people show up purely with the intention of making a fast buck !!!
we're NOT a for sale site are we ?
i thought it was a general interest and friendly 'FORUM' ? the definition of forum is,i believe ,  a place to exchange views and ideas , not sale of goods for profit ?
why should MT.o take any financial responsibilty for any trades, are people willing to donate any of their 'profit' to the runing of the site ? i doubt it ! i for one am getting peeved by the amount of people/members who's ONLY input to the 'forum' is "how much is this worth?" or "who wants to buy my rare multitool" (that isn't that rare, i just want to shift it and E-bay won't let me do it for free)
there are some fabulous folks on this forum, and in my short time as a member I have become very fond of my home here. I'm going to be sad to see it all go down the toilet because of greed ! but i think it'll happen , and probably soon unless the sales problem is addressed. but that probably means it'll be banned and those of us that ARE honest and just want to further our hobby will suffer because a few bad eggs who will get another avenue of trading closed !

I would not use paypal "gift" unless you are dealing with someone you trust and know well.

When i first stumbled across our beloved site, i had a meagre collection, which is now built up 5 fold!! I remember my initial pm to was regarding your kindness to Zed regarding the swisschamp :salute: you also showed me that kindness too :D my increased collection has only cost me a few pounds in actual cash as it's through mostly trades with other members! who are now friends! anyone who solely joins here to sell/make profit is not & never will be a true member of the forum!!!
If any member decides to trade with another member the risk is entirley on their own shoulders and is there responsability to sort it!! NOT the forums! if a member continually rips others off i'm quite sure Grant will have no hesitation in banning said member and rightly so!!
But to ask if a member will be banned through one bad deal is not right and makes  me question your motives??
Presently i'm waiting for 2 payments to arrive at their destinations! if they do not i will resend the payment as it is my responsability not the forums!!
We are an international family on here :D regardless of colour/religion/political stance! we are brothers and sisters of the MTO world, and we TRUST each other! :D

No, I didn't know there was already a feedback section. I need to explore the site more. Now I can personally thank Bruce909 and Dunc.

I agree with both, this is the most friendly forum I have ever seen. Being in South America makes things difficult to find different models, and this forum helped me to grow my collection and make some friends from all over the world. Just had to thank the folks here for being so nice.....  :tu:

Good advice for sure.  As a rule I will not send as a gift unless its someone I deal with on a regular basis.

I agree with all points above :tu:  I've only had one deal here in which I purchased something, and it went smoothly.  I can also attest to the friendliness of this site's members so far in my experience.  As an example, I recently commented on one of the threads that I had nothing on the way and how it was a bummer as I like the anticipation, etc.  Well, Captain Spaulding offered to send me something small (not sure what yet) just to give me something to look forward to.  I've never had any personal dealings with him, no reason for him to even bother with me other than straight up kindness and generosity, as seems to be the overall atmosphere here.

More on topic as I got sidetracked:  I agree that this site should not be responsible for any bad deals.  That would be between the parties involved in any said bad deals.  As has been mentioned, if there was a repeat offender or something like that, then I am sure the Boss would show them the door ;)

I havent had any deals go bad on this forum yet but I have asked to be paid by "gift" before as I didnt know the person, that person was kinda new here and/or because I was shipping internationally and cannot track the item so it was for my protection as the seller! :)
