Strength of the snap
on: April 24, 2013, 07:53:06 PM
I just wondered if anyone has a camper where the saw does not snap back very well and is more of a soft close - the other tools give a great satisfying snap.

Can anything be done to improve this!

Used?  May need a deep cleaning/oiling.

Clean out all dirt with a pipe cleaner or something similar. Then oil the joints. Then
wrap the saw with a piece of old cloth (so you don't hurt you fingers) and work it
back and forth a few dozen times. Probably will loosen up and snap back properly.
Have done this with many knives, SAK tools, etc. Usually works well.

Thanks guys for the good advice - will need to get some oil - really love the snap (does that make me sad?).

Maybe there's dirt causing friction. Have you tried half-immersing it in lukewarm water and then opening/closing the saw repeatedly? It's what Vic recommend you do (and preferably oil the thing afterwards).

no not yet I have not done anything but am going to try now. Sill question but will baby oil do the trick or a more common oil like the Vic one?

Ok so I have had a look and perhaps I need a berry grade of oil - I knew it was a silly question
