Very happy with my Wingman!
on: April 27, 2013, 08:56:13 PM
I had a few Wingmans (and a Sidekick) in the past and was never real impressed with the whole fit and finish of the tool. There was always something wiggling or to much play, ect..... So I decided to get another Wingman to use this summer as a tool I can beat up. I was pleasantly surprised after I received it. Every single implement on the tool either locks perfectly or snaps firmly into place. No play or wiggle in anything. The Pliers head has virtually no play in them and the tip is aligned/ground perfectly. Spring in the pliers is perfect. With other Wingmans I noticed a trend of being "wobbly" when the tool is closed. This one has very little play when doing this. The clip is also as tight as it could be with a hint of side to side play which is acceptable as long as it stays as is. It also has a fairly good grind on the blade. Another thing I noticed is the spring on the scissors is just perfect. It catches very high and the scissors run like butter. There is no wiggle in the scissors either. I just can't believe how great the fit and finish is on this Wingman is. It (almost) makes me not wan't to use it.  :tu:

Sorry if I was rambling guys I am just excited it is put together so well and from there cheapest line of tools. I have bought Leatherman tools 4x the value that where not put together this well. I wish I could say this is the new going for the Wingman, but I highly doubt it. If I could guarantee a Sidekick would be assembled the same I would buy one of those too.

Almost forgot to add that it is the flat handled kind/version or whatever we are calling it. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with its seemingly incredible care in assembly.

Well thats nice to hear for sure.  I hope they are tweaking the budget line as they make them to help them be all they can be.  I bought a wingman when they first came out and was very unimpressed.

Cappie, its nice to see that you like your Wingman.  I got one early on, and I was not groovy with it because the scissors kept unlocking without my permission.  But I want to give it another try, and I want to like it.  I think this is a good excuse for me to order another one.   :)

I still think you should replacing the blade with a saw blade would make it a handy tool.

my sidekick was fine fit and finish wise.

leatherman may just have needed to push out a few thousand tools to get them right

practice makes perfect  :P
