Not too thrilled with this one. :( Exposed diamond file isn't a good idea. It will tear up pockets and/or sheaths. While I like the idea of adding a diamond file, the execution isn't the best.

The standard CX has a PE blade odd they decided to put the CE on this one  , I would be keen if it had a PE blade.

Yep I reckon some kind of protective sleeve would be a good idea to protect the diamond file

I think it's just a regular skele with diamond file and painted black, not the CX version, that's why the CE. That's not DLC coating and the blade isn't marked 154cm.

To my knowledge(I could be wrong) they'll be using 420HC Stainless(the same steel used by Buck Knives), but with a better heat treat

I'm sure this is an early prototype for testing if it's not going to be released until January.  I imagine some evolution has yet to take place before we see a final version.

a fold out file like on the Wave would be very useful for me and make it a worthwhile tool to carry at work. A file just on the dife of the tool wouldn't be able to get in to the tight spaces the Wave file can and would be as good as useless to me.

If, as it looks, it is fixed, who/what would it be useful for? It doesn't have a groove for fish hooks like the PST II so that suggest not fishing. LM have been releasing snowboard-y tools so it could be for that market but what do you need a file for on a snowboard?

MMost of these recent inovations, especially the snow boarding "tools" have been the product of Lee Leatherman. Since he's into extreme sports.
Personally, I wish Lee was a fan of Doctor Who, And he could have the company concentrate its energies on making the ultimate multitool,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,THE SONIC SCREWDRIVER(the last multitool anyone will ever need/want)  :multi:

I would love to have a sonic screwdriver. But I would have to mod it so it would have a toothpick and a can opener.

Solution seems easy. Flip the file over, and pivotable. The rivet on tail end attaches to a separate piece with a notch which engages another notch on tip of file, and lock it in place till needed.

To my knowledge(I could be wrong) they'll be using 420HC Stainless(the same steel used by Buck Knives), but with a better heat treat

Don't let any Buck fan hear you say that, buck's HT of 420 is suppose to be godly and easily rival 154cm.  :o

Sadly 420HC has been tempered,by some makers, a bit too hard.  Making it a pain in the smurf to sharpen.  Hance the steels bad repute

I hate to put it bluntly , while Leatherman's midsized , and large Multi's are good bits of kit , the smaller stuff jumps the shark .

I don't think so.  Ill admit it looks like LM is going through a change.  And change will always involve pain.

If you ask me( and no one did  :D ), Leatherman seems to be straying further and further away from what made them what they are today.  I love their tools, and really most of the stuff they've produced is cool, but the quality control has gone through rollercoasters and the "innovation" (code for pander to the majority without caring who you're copying) has taken a turn for the weird.

They should just go back to making good quality multitools that HAVE FLAWS.  They all do no matter how much you innovate and think and tweak.  Bring back the Sideclip, KF4, PST, and Original Wave.  Stop putting Cap crimpers in EDC tools.   The Wingman and Sidekick, well, we'll pretend that they didn't happen...

Sorry to get on a soapbox, I've been handling my older LM's today and it makes me sad that my sideclip is an artifact of a better time IMHO.  I'm almost scared to use it because if it breaks, and I use the Warranty that came with it, I will most likely get a Wingman as a replacement(I shudder at the thought).
