Surprising's not the word I'd use...bloody scary is more acurate
The thing is, I seriously doubt any of this sort of stuff will be worth much in the future, ever ultra rare Sak's aren't massive amounts of money, expensive yes, but not enough if you wanted to sell one and retire.
I have an old Supertool that Teddy Roosevelt used when he stopped the Mayflower from sinking on its way back from The Bay of Pigs invasion. It is made from recycled steel from King Arthurs' Excaliber and was made in a Mongolian insane asylum. At least that's what the guy told me. It is worth millions.
my gawd, I wouldn't even want to try! in knives alone but what I've tried to do is get things that I can use for several things, never as an investment or safe queen (can you say that with brits in the house?)for camping, edcing, emergencies, end of the world, and general tools I try and use.
I have two spreadsheets, itemizing the details of every SAK and flashlight that I own or have owned, what I spent on each, and what they sold for.....

You shouldn't keep track of things like cost and value. These things are better left in the foggy nether regions of your brain. Otherwise you run the risk of a sobering reality like Total Dollars Spent taking all the fun out of an innocent hobby!
That's what keeps me from doing it!No written proof and complete denial of wrongdoing is what's kept me out of trouble so far.

I don't spend any time worrying about what the other half thinks about it. I mean, I love her, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

When she complains about how you spend so much money on XYZ that you don't really need, since you already have something functionally similar, tell her that she doesn't need to spend so much money on shoes, handbags and makeup that resemble functionally similar such items that she already has.
