Saying hello and my current blades so far
on: May 07, 2013, 11:16:30 PM
Hi, im from argentina, im 31 and been using tools and blades since i can remember. I grew up in a big city but had a lot of family on the countryside, so going hunting and camping to the mountains has always been part of my life. Also my dad has a shop were i work with him on mornings doing cylinder head work (valves, seats, machining, etc) So tools and doing my own work have always been a big part of my life too.

So ill give you a pic of what ive been gathering so far, its not a collection as there is no theme or even a will to collect. Its more a group of tools that get used a lot and i really love them all and have plenty of adventures with all of them.

Group photo

First my katana, its a spanish marto with different handle and tsuba, made a lot of cutting and training with it on my ninjutsu years.

Next a jewel i found on a wet floor under a lot of garbage, when i asked to my dad if he had a machete for a trip i wanted to make, he said to look on an storage room that maybe there was one. Turns out is an original collins made in colombia that belonged to my grandfather, i cleaned some of the rust with wd40 and sand paper, never sharpened it, hacked more trees than i can remember and would take it anywhere again.

Here is a better pic:

Then there is a us bayonet copy thats nor great or poor, it was a cheap buy and served well so far.

The victorinox box is to remember my victorinox parachutist (which i loved) that got lost on the mountains a couple of years ago R.I.P.

My eka w11 fixed blade is my go to knife whenever i go on an outdoors trip. Solid knife really like it.

Then there is the wenger everest, my edc knife, really really like it. It gets used a lot.

Next to it its a stanley multitool, its cheap and cheap quality. Use it on my dads shop mainly to open boxes quickly and cutting things, so if i grease it or drop it i dont care.

Finally my smith and wesson folder, was my first folding knife, it got a lot of use and abuse and its still like new. Very good quality knife.

Sorry for the long post, hope someone reads it and hope to discuss and keep adding more of this awesome tools that make a lot of tasks a joy to do.

Thanks a lot for the welcome. Yeah i know they are diverse, but as i said they all appeared to cover a need. Funny you like those two because they are the most used of all right now. The eka is much more better looking in person than in that photo.

Right now most of my work is about street car engines both modern and old and truck engines. Its my idea to equip myself to be able to work on performance engines but i have to save more since is a big investment. We do a lot of flat side grinding (i dont know how you say in english when you grind the surface were the gasket goes) for performance engines, thats my dads job, i do valve grinding, valve seats and assembling and dissasembling the heads.

My favourite engines are the motorcycle japanese inline 4s. Im a motorcycle fan too. I just love all the reliability and posibilities they offer, most editions of that engine from the different manufacturers is a beast that can take whatever usage and modifications you throw at it, plus they give a lovely note.

On cars currently i have great respect for vw engines, specially those 1.6 used on many models around here. Mostly because its the engine that i see the less which translates in a more reliable engine in my experience.

Maybe we can start a thread somewhere and share some pics and our mechanic projects  :tu:

Sounds like you are increasing the compression ratio with your head mods  .

Yep those old air cooled Japanese 4's are very cool & the new ones are just nuts  :ahhh :D , I think most 600's make heaps more power than my old GPz900 ever made  :o :o

When you mentioned you are in Argentina & you do engine work,I immediately thought of VW's  :D :D, I remember reading that VW Beetles were very popular in South America & I did wonder if VW's are still popular  :D :D.When I worked in a garage some 25 years ago  :ahhh :ahhh :D I only worked on a handful of Beetles & I thought they all leaked oil & I could not believe a car could have an air cooled motor  :D :D.

I think my favourite car engine is the Australian made Chrysler Hemi straight 6 , I dreamed of owning one with triple Weber carbies  :D :D.
I love Ducati desmo motors when it comes to motor bike engines.
I like radial engines too  :D :D
