That's very interesting. But something occured to me. Why then do we have these same gears on the SOG crosscut? It's not like you need a lot of leverage to cut some paper or wire. Does it help on that tool, or is it just for uniformity in design?
Every now and again someone will notice the gears on one of my SOG tools. They'll usually ask what they're for and I'll try to explain the gear-drive and compound leverage before their eyes glaze over and they stop caring.Feeling kind of dorky trying to explain this I have devised a way to show how much better the compound leverage is. You guys can do this too, all you need is a US Penny or a equal denomination in your home country's currency.Take the Penny and place it between the jaws of the pliers. Sqeeze as hard as you can, I have to use two hands and really crank it but it's worked everytime so far.(Image removed from quote.)After a few seconds you'll hear a loud pop and see this.(Image removed from quote.)Amazing, huh? Looks like it got run over by a train or something? But no, just good engineering in action. So, next time someone asks about your SOG tool just smile and find a penny.
It worked adequately. I would just rather cut pennies effortlessly with the wire cutters.
Hmmmm....its a matter of opinion I guess. The Crosscut scissor jaws are longer but seem thinner and not as solid as a Micra for instance. So even though the geared handles do add more leverage it doesn't seem like the Crosscut can cut through thicker stuff.I suppose I should do some proper testing though.......

Comparison pics posted in this thread here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,4516.msg73197.html#msg73197
Spoon any chance you could do a video of the penny ? Dunc

I showed this thread to some of my friends who also like to collect multitools. Nearly all of them think it is unbelievable! For me, I also tried with my own S69 to prove it, I failed! So would you like to show more details or some video. Or it just be a joke?

Although you are one of many to question it though.
Come over here so I can slap you
Come on! I should appologize to all of my friends coz I was so pround to flaunt my SOG powerlock with this thread! What a ridiculous regrettably pathetic!
