This just seems to be ridiculous though. Are these that scarce, or is there a perception out there that the worth of these will continue to climb even higher?
Just curios, does your tracking catch the ones that people don't know what they have or are misidentified?
However, that includes models of each type and colour which makes them hard to compare.Did you split your statistics even further?Let's say for red ones which are in great condition?
If the auctions don't show up in my search or get purchased in a BIN before I see them, they obviously don't get factored into the data.
Ok, I've been around collecting for a while, but that's the most crazy auction bidding i've seen in a long time.I wonder if the buyer 'jimyleee' from China follows through with the purchase and pays up?

Are these that scarce, or is there a perception out there that the worth of these will continue to climb even higher? With Voyageurs its mostly perception. That's not to say that they aren't very cool (the only official alox with scissors) and unusual, but they are not as hard to find as people on the internet make them out to be ("OMG they are super, super rare!!!!"). Long winded opinion on SAK collecting to follow:Sites like this forum promote interest in the hobby of collecting these old/unusual knives. This in and of itself is fine - there are a lot of coin collecting forums that don't typically cause prices to spike. IMO, the price spikes with SAKs come as a combo of heightened awareness from places like this plus there three problems: 1. The majority of SAK collectors are new to the hobby and only get into it for a year or so.2. there is very, very little quantifiable data on how rare any model of SAK is.3. The main source for old SAKs is primarily eBay, where they are sold in a very serial type fashion. The result of these three issues causes a relatively constant stream of new people, without any history or experience, to jump in feet first into eBay and buy up every single "rare" knife they can find for as much as they can pay, because they read here (correctly or not) that its rare and they have no clue when they'll ever find one of these for sale again. This Jimylee is just the latest (and possibly the wealthiest) person to do this. He's been buying heavily only since Feb 2013. In addition to his $1000 Voyageur, he also bought a 1984 Commemorative Champion for $370 and lost an XXLT witha $700 bid. I can tell you from my years of collecting that an XXLT is, on average, a $350 knife. They go up for sale (almost always in NIB condition) about once a month. The 1984 Champion is a $150-ish knife that goes up for sale (again typically NIB) every month and a half. These guys then get tired out (or buy all the knives they want) and disappear. Prices settle down for a while, then a couple months later a new guy appears and it starts all over again. Lather, rinse, repeat. However, the damage is done - the prices come down a bit, but not to the previous levels. For example, people will remember this auction for a while. Next time a red NIB Voyageur goes up for sale they'll be thrilled to get it for $500 (OMG it's a $1000 knife!!!). However, it was "only" a $350 knife before Jimy bid it up to $1000. Now it's a $500 knife - the prices have been bumped. BTW, understand, I'm not really condemning these guys for this. Just trying to explain it. If I think back to when I started collecting 5 years ago, I was one of these guys, albeit on a slightly smaller scale (prices weren't as high back then and lord knows I don't have this kind of money). Anyway, food for thought. Back to the original question - how rare are Voyageurs? Here you go. Most ever paid is by Jimy as you can obviously see. Least ever paid was $10. The go up for sale on average once every 33 days and they average about $75-$125 based on condition:(Image removed from quote.)
