WTF did amazon just send me?
on:
May 15, 2013, 04:28:10 PM
So I ordered what I thought was a 'SOG S69-N Powerlock 2.0' from Amazon:
here
They have sent me the tool shown below. The tool I have been sent does not have the 'piano locks'. Am I sorely misinformed as to what a Powerlock 2.0 is or have they sent me the wrong thing? Because it is certainly not the same as the one in the picture.
What is this tool they have sent me?
The Leatherman crunch. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass consumption. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Sog stopped using the piano locks on the power lock. I see you have gear covers on your tool so it is the current model.

Why did they stop using the piano lock?

Yep thats the current model.
I think the piano locks werent matching up perfectly with the tools, and since its a swap the tools around kind of MT, it was easy to just revert to the one lock style.

The piano locks were really quite silly, I prefer the original locks anyway. They didn't actually make the locks easier to disengage, but they did make them more complicated and more susceptible to dirt and grime. The piano locks were an engineering solution to a problem nobody complained about.

Oh, well I guess that makes sense. I thought they looked quite cool and I do hate tool 'clumping'.

Well I ended up sending the Powerlock back to Amazon.
The tool cover flaps felt cheesy, weak and annoying.
Despite the covers, it was still a bit uncomfortable to get a good squeeze on something.
The ruler is primarily in imperial measurements.
I was hoping the crimper would work for normal wiring crimp on connectors. It does not, only c4 blasting caps
.
EPIC tool clumping.
There was a big plastic spacer, they could have fitted another tool in there!
After realising it would cost me ~$35 to get the tools I wanted shipped from the states I decided it was not worth it.
It was not an easy decision but in the end I realised it was not the tool for me.
I then foolishly ordered a crosscut with my amazon credit note. OMG what a POS this thing is. I wrap my sandwiches in tin foil that is than the tougher metal this thing is stamped from. The cheesy little rivets that hold the handles together are barely fitting correctly and if I cut something 'tough' they shift in their holes! Furthermore they perform barely any better than the similar small sized pair of scissors on my desk.
bleh. I am done with SOG.
I think the silverline faux crunch has sullied my expectations. At 5 times the cost, I was expecting something massively better.
The search for my ideal tool continues!

SOG is very much like a Jeep or Harley Davidson. Yeah they aren't the best designed out there, they may rattle and squeek, but you can repair them all at the side of the road with few parts, fewer tools and even less know how.

the ruler on the powerlock is both metrics and imperial, like the leathermans also.. theres no plastic spacer unless its a powerassist, as far as i know.
i got my first sog before my other multis and i thought its not that greater either.. and now its barely the only tool i use when i need an actual tool. some other are nice but they're generally better knife than pliers.

No they started adding those white spacers to occupy spaces that otherwise could've fitted with components. My powerlock (from 1.0 to 2.0 transitional period) has one spacer and my recently purchased paratool has two, which annoyed me quite a bit.

I know it has metric and imperial but the imperial is on the outside where it is easy to use and metric is on the inside with the plier head.
This makes the metric side quite useless. Come on SOG, this is not the 19th century any more, metric first.
