Utterly rotton evening
on: July 06, 2013, 12:42:17 AM
A good friend called us tonight in tears and panic.

One of her dogs, Mabel, a four year old red Staffy cross had run hard head first in to a wooden post, then hit the deck and started seizing. She was only a mile or two from here, and on foot so we jumped in the car and sped down to the park. She was already dead so there was nothing anyone could do.

We wrapped her in a blanket and carried her back to car, took her home to her other human. They are utterly devastated, and so are we by all accounts. We knew Mabel from when they got her as a puppy and often had here hanging out with Ruby, so she was family. She wasn't called the "meat bullet" for nothing - solid muscle and no brains.

Here's the little red nut case with my Ru.

I'm sorry to hear this.  I have seen my dogs run into something pretty hard and often thought that was it for them.  Luckily they have always managed to shake it off, but that only means it might just be a matter of time before they can't.

She's a beautiful little girl, and I'll bet the world is a darker place without her exuberant sloppy tongue and near lethal tail wags.

All the best to you and your friend.  Its not much consolation I know, but we have all been there and certainly know what she's going through.

The only thing I have found that helps is to try to remember the good times you had with your beloved pet,  rather than the sad circumstances at the end.

Ah... the humans are definitely feeling it today.

Favourite Meat Bullet story:

We live near an amazing place known as Moseley Bog, which is sadly where Mabel met her end last night. It gets muddy down there, clue in the name I guess!
We were all out together with three dogs and Hedgekid was in front of me on a platform they have build down there to get around on easily. Mabel pulled off her signature move of running in to the back of someone's legs at high speed. Hedgekid fell in slow motion off the platform, and landed in the mud on her back. Karen and I were trying to help and not to laugh without much success :D

Next thing, 3 dogs are all over Hedgekids face, try to kiss her better... she's winded, we're crying with laughter and it took a while to bat the mutts off and get her out of the mud. Mabel was quite brilliant at sweeping peoples feet out from under them, as well as stealing hearts ::)

Heh heh thanks, I can almost picture that happening! Too bad someone didn't have a camera along. :D Although I'm sure Minty would not have appreciated you snapping off pictures while she was trying to waller her way out of the muck :D
