D'oh!  I forgot about that.  There's going to be a big gap in performance until the US manufacturers start using the Cree or Seoul emitters.

If by "no Chinese" the OP means "no Communist Chinese", hence Taiwan is OK, then I have another contender. Not cheap, but a damn fine light:

I own their original, larger AA-based light, and it's my EDC. This one is AAA, and brighter, thanks to a Cree emitter. I don't have one of these yet, but if my LF-1 is any indication, these guys build SWEET lights.

Yeah, I know, it's a lot more than $20... but since shipping is included, it's in the same ballpark as Fenix or Arc.
