A little trip across the border netted 3 MTs.

I took a rare trip into the United States today and came across a few MTs that I haven't seen on the Canadian side. I had to take them home with me.

At a store called Biglots, I came across two cheap MTs. One being a very cheap Sheffield, and the other being some no name tool that I haven't seen before.

Lets take a closer look at the no name tool. At first I wasn't all that impressed however, there is one little detail that I found rather interesting...



If you take a close look at the longer fold out tools...



You can just see that they are cut to the handle edge shape.





This little detail I wasn't expecting. Not much but I did find it interesting in such a cheaply priced multi-tool. Everything else is as you would expect for a 5 dollar tool.

Next up is a very cheaply made Sheffield multi-tool. This one has those rubber glued one handle cover appliqués that lend the tool a lot of grip for the hand...but these aren't even applied nicely. Screams cheap...and it is. The nicest thing about the sheath is the Sheffield embroidery.



Not much to say about this one. Only a buck more than the above tool. I guess the sheath is worth an extra buck...I guess.



I found this next tool at a Honda dealer. I kid not. It was a real find as it is a bit unique in what it offers. Some of you may know that I have another Outdoor Edge Multi, and I love the awl on it. This one has the same wonderful awl.



The stamping on this tool is first class. Reminds me of what you see on Leatherman tools. In fact, this is the size of a Leatherman Super Tool.



The Pliers are a bit different as well. Nice to see a Blunt nose for a change.



This multi is called a Sportsman's tool. I find it interesting that you get a broad head adjustment tool, and a nice and long strap/skinning cutter. Oh and that is the awl I love above all other awls on this planet.



So that is about it for today. I was surprised that I found a few MTs that I already didn't have...and just across the border at that. I might have to go back often to see what else I may be able to dig up.

What's so special with that awl? It looks like a fat needle.
And I don't understand the rectangular cuts in the pliers. What is their purpose?

I love fat needle type awls. To me, that is the perfect shape and length for an awl. As for those rectangular cuts in the pliers...they are for archery nock removal. The oval is for nock crimping. So this is basically an archery tool. Do you know how rare these types of tools are to find out in the wild...and I just happen to see one hanging on a peg at a Honda dealer no less!

Nice find Dan... those provisions found on the base of the flathead driver's tang grabbed my curiosity by the tail...I suppose they are for attaching and uncrewing broadheads, are they not?

always a great experience seeing these tools.

The Outdoor Edge plier-head is amazing.  That beefy nose looks like it could crush stone. I also like the rescue hook/scraper. Good find.

I have one of those Sheffields. I think it's a considerable step up from the Coghlan that Jothra tested. Not as good as a PST, but far from worthless. Then again, maybe they're making them even cheaper these days, so who knows?

Love the "outdoor edge" finally a mt that does it right. Yeah, maybe not in the execution but you have some pretty unique tools on it not just the standard: pliers, blade, bottle opener, can opener.
