Sog powerlock.....Question
on: June 05, 2013, 11:06:10 AM
I bought a sog powerlock at Lowe's this past weekend and was wondering if you all think I got a good deal on it. The packaging had the side cute open but tool was in place (screwed down to plastic) and the leather sheath was perfect. Everything was as should be but the side of the clamshell was cut. Anyways its was 59.99 and they then gave me a 15% discount due to that plus a buck to bring it down to around $49 out the door. It appears to be the older model as it doesn't have gear covers.

So good deal or was a raped in broad daylight?

that's quite a steal, Ash!... I remember reading that the Powerlocks issued to the military were specifically without gear covers.

I would have bought it for that price too.  The gears do hurt the hands though, but I love the pliers.

I think SOG makes those special for Lowe's, note the new style Allen screws and pliers head, but no gear covers.

I find that Lowes does a pretty good job of being competative with there prices. the fact that they are one building away from where i pick up my paycheck doesnt help very much :P

I have a Powerlock Question, too!

AFAIK it´s an old style one. It has no gear covers, no "Piano Locks" and hex bolts hold it together.

What i want to know:

Is this - or has this been - a stock Powerlock Tool Loadout or did someone mix and match tools and sold off a Frankentool? The Too has one Nylon washer in the one and 2 in the other leg.
All Powerlocks i have seen have either scissors and 1/4 inch adaptor or a V-cutter.

I wouldn't say Frankentool... It looks like it could be someone took out the V-cutter and combo blade, and put in separate PE and SE blades... But I'm not that knowledgeable about this  . Looks quite useful like this, anyway. :tu:

i wouldn't call $49 a steal but its an ok price. the regular (as in "civilian") version is between $50 and $60 in general.

I got a Powerlock on Dailysteals for $45 shipped last year, and that was with a lot of patience and waiting. I think $49 in a brick and mortar store is pretty awesome.
