FYI: QC Problems with my MUT.
on: June 07, 2013, 05:49:01 PM
So I finally saved up to buy a MUT to stick in my bag when I go to the range. I like all of the features, and my 6 year old thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen.

Here was my main problem:

  • It didn't come with the long driver bits - The ones accessible why switching the plunger/detent side to side. No problem, emailed customer service and they sent me replacements that just arrived today. Tried to put one in - wouldn't budge. There is a small black ball bearing (some sort of polishing medium?) stuck in the slide area. I'll have to somehow pry it out and in doing so gouge the hell out of it, or scrape off the black oxide coating.

It's little stuff I realized. Just wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience?

First off, welcome to the forum!¡!

Got my MUT last August and have no issues with it so far. My favorite tool on it?¿? The hammer!¡!

Thanks! I'm excited about this tool, especially at the range. QC stuff bugs me to no end. I noticed you have the BO MUT in your picture. How has the coating held up?

I love my MUT [I got the BO EOD model] and it's currently my EDC.  I dig the hell out of the hammer feature as well; it is awesome.  Eh...this particular model is my second iteration.  That is, I sent my first model back in to LM on what-I-suppose is a technicality:  the 'needle nose' pliers did NOT meet well for what I'd call 'finer' work.  It seemed to me that they should - they are, after all, needle nose pliers.  That feature was definitely rectified with the new replacement.

However, I've had some problem with the wire cutters jamming the thing shut.   Also, the pliers stick on the knife/saw side when opening.  I've toyed with the torx screws, but I'm still having a problem - albeit one that is pretty livable.  I don't really want to send this one back in, etc., etc.

At any rate, it sounds like something you should send back in to LM.  It was their QC fail; personally, I wouldn't f**k with it - let them fix it.  It is a pain to send things back in, but if there was ever a warranty to take advantage of, LM's is it.  Absolutely.  It's still a great tool, though; I really love it.   :D

I haven't had it come off yet. I bought it in August of last year. I'm a retired military guy and I'm sure that it would look more worn when I was still working. I now use it occasionally around the house but not a whole lot. I got it because I've wanted one since they came out.
