Kissing & Möllmann (bushcraft) machete
on: June 08, 2013, 11:38:55 PM

This vintage machete made by the no longer existing German company Kissing & Möllmann from Iserlohn had been hanging unused somewhere on a wall in it's sheath for decades, and sadly this caused some corrosion spots on the chromed blade as well as on the part of the edge just above the handle.
The horn handle itself had been a feast for some kind of insect, so i sanded it down and contoured it a bit to remove most of the damage.

The previously unsharpened blade now has 6 inches of scandi grind, while i sharpened the rest to a convex edge with an inclusive edge angle of about 30 degrees.

The steel in this machete is both harder as well as more wear resistant compared to several modern machetes i sharpened earlier, and it certainly isn't crap.
I think it's going to make someone very happy.

Specs:

Overall length: 22.8 inch (58,0 cm)
Blade length: 17.6 inch (44,7 cm)
Blade thickness: 2,72 mm just before the handle tapering to 1,6 mm an inch before the point
Steell: chromed carbon steel
Handle material: Natural horn with brass rivets
Weight: 411 grams

I like this shape, similar to the Massai seme sword. http://mercantico.eu/en/varie/357-seme-antico-machete-masai-.html
