Is this a fake Leatherman?
on: May 03, 2022, 08:32:59 PM
I got a multitool from an inheritance, but unfortunately I couldn't find this type anywhere on the internet. As you can see in the picture, the only type designation is "tool" - I have three questions:

- the length when folded is 10cm, can you tell me about how old this knife is?

- when using the pliers, the arms do not spring back - is this normal with this model or is the spring broken?

-as you can see there is a notch on the file blade - is this normal or is it wear and tear?

I would be very grateful if you can help me further, thanks in advance,
best regards!

Welcome, Ice. It looks real; it is either a PST, the first ever model of the Leatherman multitools, with a PST II file added or, an early version of the PST II (which is the 2nd. model; based on the PST, but having a combo blade, scissors and the diamond sharpener/file instead of the awl, regular file). That file is OK as the groove was supposed to be sharpening fishing hooks and the nail nick is to pull it out of the handle. Maybe post a picture of the tools fanned out, so someone more knowledgeable can help further. Good luck!

Oooh and by the way looks to be in extremely good condition; the sheath looks unused and so does the file.  :tu:

:iagree: with Juan. It looks like a PSTII, but if we could see all the tools it would be easier to be 100% sure :tu:
You can check the datestamp inside the handles underneath the tools to see when it was produced :tu:

Welcome to :MTO:

Post pics of both sides, the tools spread out, and the blade tang and we can probably make a good estimate of the date.

It’s a PST II with the fishing hook notch in the diamond file. It’s in beautiful condition!

You have an early model PST II in lovely condition probably from 1996-97.  if you look at the inside back of both handles there will be dates. Like 0796 for example. PST stands for Pocket Survival Tool BTW  :tu:

Welcome to the forum  !

Looks really good.  Its what they said it is and it also should have scissors which make this particular one a favorite of mine. Congrats.

Thank you very much for all the usefull answers, didn t expect that so fast!
Its really interesting how sophisticated the producer was concerning the fishing hook notch and also the construction of the scissors is very clever - as soon as i am again in my garage, i make more pictures.

:iagree: that this forum is great. I can also add that your PST II never had a spring in the pliers, so no worries about a broken spring. Congratulations on finding one in such superb condition, and welcome to :MTO: !
