Using my Haults Bruks
on: April 27, 2008, 10:42:26 PM
I was using my Haults Bruks felling/splitting axe today while I was doing some spring cleaning in the garden :)

Usually I use my Kukri for this sort of thing as I feel more comfortable/confident with it, but I decided to use my axe instead for a change. Well the first swing for about a year reminded me how different a beast an axe it :D, less controlable, less accurate (but better with some practice) but oh so destructive >:D

Once I finished tidying up I then spent about 30 mins chopping and splitting wood for my parent's chiminea :), I'll probably pay for it with it with sore shoulders tommorow, but is there anything better than twirling, hacking and slashing with a big sharp, scary tool ;)

Nothing exciting, we have a generic cheap hatchet at home, would like to get a Gerber/Fiskars hatchet at some stage though. Not got a real need for a splitting axe, but i've used one in the past (it was part of the job description!) and it was a great stress reliever, good exercise as well :)

Cheers! Although my housemate (although it was used by an idiot to take a pallet apart and it needs a lot of TLC :( ) has one so i know what they feel like, very comfy in the hand, but it's been a while since i've used it due to the afore mentioned trouble!

:o I'm shocked! You're gonna have fun at the meet up then :D Do you think we are gonna need to bring wood with us, doubt there's enough trees in Nottinghamshire to quench our thirst for destruction!!

Thats a distinct possibility, most campsites I know off are civilised places, I doubt they'd let us go on a rampage :(
