Orange scales are even harder to find than those black ice SAKs :)

111mm scales can be ordered as replacement parts from your local swissdealer (which has to order them itself).

That's right. I was thinking about orange 91mm scales which are quite rare (unfortunately).

That is a fact I have to teach the people at the Cologne Victorinox shop... ;)  Until know they believe they only get red Cellidor spares. We´ll see what they can do for me in the future. They were nice and mentioning the possibility of home-baked cakes seemed to make things more possible.

I love that Black Ice Trailmaster... but there's no way I'd buy one.

No bottle opener!

Either this is a big deal or it isn't. But if someone in your family drinks wine, you will look pretty daft on a camping trip when you have all these survival tools and no way of opening a bottle of plonk. (shoving a cork down the neck of the bottle with a teaspoon is fun - until half a liter of red ejaculates all over your Chinos.)

And the price. A few months ago the Black Ice Trailmaster was pricy. Now it's extortionate!

I don't mind paying money for things that are attractive to the eye.  $100 is nothing, if you compare it to the thousands of dollars that some people pay for a watch. (Wonder what it's like, misplacing a $32,000 Philppe Patek?)

But paying a premium for things that don't quite have the tools you need... no, not happening.

I have a similar problem with the orange Hunter XS... it is perfect in every way --- but has no screwdriver! Not even one.

The perfect Victorinox does not exist...

At this point often modders (like me) can help you. ;)

Have a look here for instance...

Holy smokes! Genius!

I haven't even started looking at mods... but this is fantastic. Almost as good as being able to order a Big Mac with no pickle.

Awesome work Hank!

"I can't find any of it on fleabay"

Ebay's not much better...
I can find 1 for sale in ebay france,
2 in germany, (including a spartan going for 140 Euros?! I just got 2 for less than that... mysterious.)
And not a whiff of one the the whole of the UK.

These things are like hot chicks that offer to pay for drinks... exceedingly rare.

I thought I'd found the full set last night, only to be emailed this morning to be told that it was an error and they were out of stock!  :twak:

"I'll stick with my plain stainless finish thank you"

Probably the wise thing to do... especially when you can hold them over a candle for the same effect...
(I was about to insert a smiley but I vowed back in '96 never to use them again...)

Last night I located a Black Ice Trekker for sale in the UK. A bargain at 86 quid! I ordered it immediately, sensing it was the last one in Europe... only to get an email today stating that actually, the item that was clearly described as IN STOCK was in fact OUT OF STOCK and DISCONTINUED.

Since I had already paid, they offered me "an alternative at a slightly discounted price" to which my answer was a swift "no" and a 500 page letter from my lawyer. I got my money back in about 2 minutes.

So, even if we want a nice black blade, the stainless ones are the only ones most of us mortals are ever going to see.
Luckily, candles are cheap...

Same place I tried to order from and the same result.

Meh. It's actually the camo scales that kill it for me. I'm more of a colorful alox guy...

I saw on a youtube review that on the Trekker the camo is just painted on top of black nylon (or whatever it is they make the side bits out of.)

I don't know what the Spartans are like in this respect, whether the colour goes deep into the plastic -- but paint is, er, not very impressive. Might as well use nail polish...

And the Trekker on ebay germany, with 3 days to go, is already at 174 euros... nuts to that, I say.

The Spartans I ordered should arrive tomorrow. I paid 132 for 2. I might ebay them immediately. I think I could make a tidy profit for once...

VicUSA today just listed the Black Ice set saying it's now available: $100, 130, & 150.

I notice they list the Trekker as Trailmaster, as they do in other countries. I guess there's no problem  anymore w/copyright infringement.
