Hello all,

i'm currently waiting for the postman to deliver one of these to me.

I've bought it to be my EDC as I was originally looking at purchasing a tinker but I noticed the hiker has the exact same tools but with the added bonus of a saw blade.

I see plenty of love for the tinker on here (quite rightly so) but I have not seen much on the forum in regards to the hiker and just wondered what your opinions of it are?

I apologise in advance that I may have missed a mountain of hiker threads but I'm blaming this solely on being a newbie!

Welcome, the hiker is a great choice for an edc SAK. I think most of the love for the tinker comes from it being around so long. I'm guessing a lot of the folks here had one for their first SAK, I know I did. Just be careful, once you get bitten by the bug, you're screwed. My collection has grown significantly since frequenting here.

Nothing at all wrong with the Hiker.  It is a solid choice, but less popular than the Tinker because (IMHO) of the additional layer and the fact that not everyone has regular need of a saw blade.

Personally, if given choice from the Tinker + one layer family for EDC, I would take a Super Tinker, since I would get more use from the scissors than the saw.

I've had a Swiss champ for about 18 months and never thought I'd need another SAK . . . . . .

Then I found this place!

I've now got a hiker on its way to me as its less bulky than the champ and I have a escort on my key ring. Now for something with wooden scales!

You got that right!

I think the Hiker gets lost in a bunch of other options...Farmers,Huntsmen,Fieldmasters,Evo18 etc.

Hiker would make a good whittler :pok:

Excellent choice...  That's what my (then) 12 year old son and I settled on for him. He loves it.

The Small Tinker was my very first knife...  I've had it since about 1968... So that particular Tinker I like better than the Hiker. If we're talking new knives, it would be a very tough call between them. The Hiker's saw is excellent for outdoors and DIY; the Tinker arguably has the best form factor of all SAKs (slim enough for perfect pocket carry and thick enough to get a grip on; the closed screwdriver feels better in the hand than the closed corkscrew).

The Hiker is a great knife! I just retired mine because I got a black Fieldmaster (wanted scissors).  Also got a real nice black leather belt pouch that holds the knife and a flashlight!

recently got a hiker - I'd already gotten one for each of my kids as gifts over the last few years and scored one cheap on amazon for myself. It has proven to be a great complement for my Juice, so far happy with it :)

Welcome to the club buddy! The Hiker is one of my all time favorite SAKs. I've carried mine all over the place, and it's bailed me out of more jams than I can count. You won't regret having one! :tu:
