What is the appeal of the Alox models?

I should add the one I posted is a custom by the way.  Also, I do really like cellidor for the scale and back tools.  I may actually prefer it overall due to the extra goodies it allows for, plus scissors (not that I couldn't have had them added to my custom Alox, but I opted for pliers instead).  I do love the inline awl though, I'd say it's the best awl I've used.  I also love the feel of alox and the durability.

Sambeaux, I think the idea of a Farmer in a BOB is an excellent idea.

Maybe not strange, but I think the Swisstool Spirit X is an even BETTER idea.

I have both. I carry the Swisstool. Not because comparable tools are better, only that it has more tool options.

I'm still looking for a good place to put my Farmer, and haven't yet come up with one. For the time being, it's in a general disaster preparedness home kit.

I have two bugout bags set up. One already has a swisstool in it.

The inline awl looks a lot like the awl on my Kamp King knife... which is a pretty awesome awl...

They are just  so nice feeling.  The Alox Classics especially feel great, and the Cadet feels like an entirely different knife than the Cellidor 2-layer 84mm knives.

Alox tools are beefier... and more durable. Alox saks also have a much better awl..

Alox ages well. Beat-up Alox scales still look good, if not better because of the patina. Beat-up celidor looks like.... well, beat-up plastic. If you want an heirloom to pass to the next generation, then Alox is your best bet.


That said, celidor isn’t a bad choice at all. I have several that I use in my rotation. You can switch out celidor scales for different colors. You can use plus scales and have a pen handy There are LOTS more tool options, including the back tools.. which are very useful.   


But I’ll leave you with this final thought;  modded Alox is a beautiful thing. Syph upgraded my Urban Pioneer with pliers:

I'm not going to say one is better than the other.  The fact is I enjoy and use both.  The only way this can be settled is to try both for yourself and see the advantages/disadvantages and go from there.  I hope this helps

That is very true. The scissors on the Classic are quite capable for their size.

To me the appeal is just the downright good looks of alox over cellidor.
