The first 18 are taken...
on: July 18, 2013, 10:13:57 PM
In the "How do you display your collection?" thread I mentioned that I have thirty small stands to put in my display case, and I am going to give MTO branded tools priority.  Specifically, these MTO branded tools, although not necessarily in this order:

So, with those 18 stands spoken for, what other dozen SAKs or multitools do you think I should include as well?  You should all pretty well know my collection by now, but in case you don't, what would you put in there if you were putting them in your cabinet?

I'd add the prototypes you have. ;) T-Rex, Skele, original Freestyle (you have that one, right  ), Balance, ... That should fill a couple of spots. :D

I have a T-Rex, a pre production Skeletool, and two Freestyle prototypes- a CX and a standard, but not the original type with the fixed driver, although I'd kill for one of those!  Bob got my Balance.

My signed PST is a good choice, as is my Japanese PST.  It's also worth noting that the green Charge is also signed by Tim Leatherman.  :D

Your rusted Leatherman! That real bad one... Wingman, right?

I'm not sure I'd want my Wingman to infect any of the other tools in there!   :ahhh

You could embed the Wingman in a block of "Water Clear Polyester Casting Resin".  That should keep it quarantined. ...and remove any temptation to use it.

Excellent suggestion, and yes indeed I am fortunate enough to have one.

In fact, that one was at the top of my "non MTO" list too!  :D

Ask and ye shall receive- Wingman has been shot down

Show off your rare or special ones

I am a sad, sad little man, and given enough time, I'll tell you a story about each and every piece in my collection.  They are all special to me, somehow or another, and my cabinet just isn't big enough for all of them!

  • Apparently it is possible to have too many tools;)

I'd try and show a bit of a time-line for each manufacturer to show how their tools have changed over the years.  Start off with their very early efforts and show the progression to their current models (depending on which ones you have available).  And if there are any obvious gaps, well that's a legitimate reason (excuse) for you to buy some more MTs, and that has to be a good thing

Of course some time-lines will come to an abrupt halt when the manufacturer went out of business, and some just turned to selling rubbish (I'm looking at you, Schrade, especially your so-called "tough" tools ! )

Another possibility is to show all the variants/relabelled versions of a particular tool (if you have ventured down that particular rabbit hole a time or two ;) )
babola: "Enjoy your tools and don't be afraid to air your opinion and feelings here, but do it in courteous and respectable way toward others, of course."

How about leaving some space for "whatever strikes my fancy"? It's nice to vary what you show off. :)

I just happened to be at JYSK today and it appears that they are carrying these cabinets again.
