As you all know by now I have a new MP600 I presume its very recent manufacture as it came direct from Gerber . There is no Gerber name on any of the blades, infact no writing at all which I find a little strange .

Another thing is on the tape measure the last line near the 8cm isnt straight , its no big deal but its about 1 mil difference from top to bottom . Not sure if its clear in the photo . Do you think its a one off or do you think they stamped out thousands .

  • Hello...is this thing on?
All my blades have Gerber USA stamped on them, I think the ruler is out on all of them though as my two MP600's are both off :(

All of my Gerber tools have the Gerber USA stamped onto the knife. The ones I checked are older ones though. I will check my other Gerber's later. I checked my 400 and 600 because they are at my computer table because I like to play with the pliers!

I took a look at mine,it's about 3 years old,and the mark is off on mine as well. I wish I could give you a reasonable answer why your blade isn't marked, but all I could do is speculate,is that possibly is was pulled from a spares or blem bin.

Mine with the Wharnecliffe blade on the newest-version MP600's doesn't seem to have any Gerber logo on it either. I can't tell exactly what type of knife blade you have there Dunc? I do notice your nail notch goes clear thru though, which isn't always the case.

I never noticed that distorted 8mm marking before. It's on all of mine too. Notice how the 8 is near where the handle necks down to fit inside the opposite handle? That bend is a tough feature for a metal stamping to make. The metal has to sssttrrrretch. (try to imagine what the handle would look like if you could unfold it and lay it flat. See? It can't be done without stretching)

My guess is they stamped the ruler when the metal was flat, then folded it into a channel shape, whereupon the metal distorted and messed up the 8 character.

(just a theory of course) :-\

Did I understand you right that you have one that has no blade markings ?

Thanks

No,my blade is marked,I was speculating that maybe your blade may have come from either a blem bin,or pulled from a bin before markings were stamped.

Neither the plain edge or the serrated have markings  ??? But both are faultless ( that I can see ) . If it had come from a bins bin you would have thought the stamp would have already been put on before this stage
Maybe because its a warrenty replacement its made up from rejected parts ? I doubt it though as theres nothing wrong with it .

Ok I emailed Gerber and they very quickly replied with this ........

Hi Duncan,

Thank you for contacting Gerber Blades.  Probably within the last 5-6 years the process of stamping our blades has ceased.  The purpose was cost efficiency and expediency as the demand for the product(s) grew.

Sincerely,

So the ones with Gerber on the blade are older then five or six years . I guess thats why mine has cut out instead of nail nicks .

If anyone can Duncan Can  ;)
