Fix-it Utility Knife.
on: August 07, 2013, 05:23:47 AM
I found this pair at the local Wall-Mart. What grabbed my attention was the unique locking mechanism.

The locking mechanism consist of a spring arm and a T-shaped pin. Push the pin towards the back to unlock the blade. The spring arm pushed the T-shaped pin into the forward locking position. I haven't seen this type of lock-back mechanism before on a utility knife.

Interesting use of the Benchmade axis lock.

How does the blade exchange system work on these?

In the second pic, you see the backside of the knives. I suppose it has something to do with taking out some of the phillips screws ;)

Just press that black button in and slide the blade out.

Edit: Looks like a modified Benchmade Axis Lock.

These utility knives have a spring loaded back pin that provides pressure on the pin. I learned something today. :)

Home Depot has actually been selling knives like these under the Husky name for  couple years.  hopefully these are a bit better quality.  The Husky ones have fallen apart when snapped open.
