Hammer Time!
on: August 09, 2013, 04:16:20 PM
Can't touch (don't want) this!

You don't have to worry about this one, this Hammer can't hurt them.

I may have posted these before but I can't remember doing it and a quick search didn't show it so here we go, I may be doing this again!  :P

A friend of mine found this in a tourist trap when he was on vacation a few years ago and he picked it up for me.  It's very tiny and I can't imagine even trying to tap in brad or finishing nails with it.  I don't think you could tap thumbtacks into a cork board with it since it is so light.  Basically, the hammer function is absurd.  here it is next to a Ring Tool to give you an idea of size.

If you don't have a Ring Tool to judge size, shame on you, get one (or even a CRKT KERT version!) asap.

To make the hammer more absurd, it splits in half and "functions" as pliers too.  Just make sure that whatever you need to grab isn't that big and has LOTS of clearance around it!  The claw on the back of the hammer/opposite jaw seems like it might be ok for pulling very small nails or larger sewing pins, but I haven't tried it as the sides are pretty fine and I'd hate to break one!

The bottle opener is about the only useful function on this tool as the knife blade isn't very sharp and the screwdriver end is pretty rounded.  All in all, it was a gag gift from a good friend so it has a very important place in my collection.  It's so over the top awful that you just have to love it!

The key ring is bigger than the hammer multi. That right there earns bonus points.  :tu:

I guess you could look at this thing as not very useful, but then my husband used to carry a metal sabertooth cat keychain fob, which I'm sure weighed more than this tool.

The hammer function is so ridiculous that it's awesome. At this point, it's almost more like a symbol of a tool, instead of an actual tool.

As a gag gift for someone into MTs, it's perfect. Terrible, but not too heavy to tote around, and share the terrible.

I was putting up some door trim and needed a small hammer.  I grabbed my version of this very same tool and I'm here to say,

It actually worked extremely well as a small hammer!  Finishing nail driven and the wood trim undamaged!

That's pure win to me... :)

Really?  I can't see this thing being even remotely functional as a hammer.  I may have to try it out now...

Are you sure yours was the same Nate? Check the keyring in Grant's photo for a sense of scale - this thing is only about 2 inches long! ;)

Yeah, not even 2 inches long.  Here are some older shots showing the size a bit better.

And bear in mind, I have dainty, girl sized hands, so this one is even smaller than you think it is!  :P

I bought a Beer Hammer for 99 cents and overpaid.  Will I ever learn not to waste my pennies?

I used to have a similar one with red/copper scales.  My missus immediately claimed it on arrival to make into a brooch (it was that small !)

Pep Boys (national auto parts/service chain in the US) sells a set with one of these and an almost identical but conventionally-pliered version. It's overpriced though, I keep considering one and then deciding it's too much to spend on a couple of useless tools.
